Yoshida in Chainsaw Man is one of the more interesting characters in the show. Let’s discuss his impact on the story.

From the mind of Tatsuki Fujimoto, Chainsaw Man capitalizes on some tropes that are not very popular in anime. In the wild world of Chainsaw Man filled with devils and devil hunters, Hirofumi Yoshida stands out as one of the most puzzling characters. This cool-headed devil hunter shows up at just the right moments throughout the story, usually when Denji (the Chainsaw Man himself) is in trouble.
Yoshida isn’t your usual devil hunter. He is a high school student and a private devil hunter. His cool appearance, personality, and amazing fighting skills make fans wonder: who is Yoshida in Chainsaw Man?
The Chainsaw Man manga was split into two parts, and Yoshida features in both. As such, at various points in the article, both parts will be discussed. Disclaimer: there are spoilers in the article.
Yoshida’s Background

Much about his history is unknown, but one thing that was stated was that he was formerly a Private Devil Hunter. Unlike Public Safety Devil Hunters who work under the government, private hunters operate independently or for organizations that prefer to remain in the shadows. Yoshida is highly skilled and is recruited for high-stakes missions that involve dealing with powerful devils and dangerous individuals.
And with Yoshida’s personality, he definitely marched to the beat of his own drum – or more likely, to whoever was paying him. Currently, he is a Public Safety Devil Hunter. He is smart and a very capable devil hunter, and Makima once said that he was a high-class bodyguard.
Yoshida’s Appearance in the Chainsaw Man manga

Part 1 Appearances
Yoshida jumps into Chainsaw Man during the International Assassins arc in Part 1. Many countries sent assassins to Japan to kill The Chainsaw Man and bring his heart (which contains Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil). America sent three brothers, China sent Quanxi and her friends, and Germany sent Santa Claus and her dolls. During this hectic time, Yoshida shows off his amazing fighting skills by taking on super-powerful enemies, including Quanxi – one of the world’s deadliest devil hunters. Even though he’s just a human, Yoshida holds his own against these superhuman fighters, proving he’s no ordinary guy in the world of Chainsaw Man.
Part 2 Comebacks
When Chainsaw Man’s Part 2 begins, Yoshida makes a surprising return as a high school student in Denji’s school. But he doesn’t try to hide it for long. He straight-up tells Denji that he’s there to watch him and make sure he doesn’t reveal that he is Chainsaw Man. This means some powerful people are still very interested in controlling what Chainsaw Man does. While Yoshida acts friendly enough with Denji, nobody knows what his real plans are or who he’s really working for in this new chapter of Chainsaw Man.
Yoshida’s Abilities

For a human in the Chainsaw Man universe, Yoshida is ridiculously skilled. His abilities make him stand out even among the wildest characters in the series:
- Hand-to-hand Combat Skills: When Yoshida fought Quanxi (a hybrid) in Chainsaw Man, he was able to hold his own even though he acknowledged that she was a lot stronger than him, which just shows how good he really is.
- Octopus Devil Powers: Yoshida has a deal with the Octopus Devil. As a result, he can call forth tentacles to grab or attack enemies and create ink-like smoke to blind opponents.
- Smart Fighter: Due to his calm and collected nature, Yoshida knows when it is time to fight and when retreating is the better decision. He is always calculating what the best course of action is.
Yoshida’s Role in the Chainsaw Man story

During Part 1
In the first part of Chainsaw Man, Yoshida’s main job was to keep Denji alive when all those international killers came after him. Though he doesn’t stick around for long, his conversations with characters like Kishibe and Quanxi hint that there’s more to him than meets the eye. That smile that he gave Aldo after killing his brother Joey also made fans a little more intrigued by him. After the assassin drama ended, he disappeared, but Chainsaw Man fans did not forget how impressive he was.
During Part 2
When Yoshida came back in Part 2 of Chainsaw Man, it became clear to viewers that Fujimoto was giving him a bigger role to play. He was constantly watching Denji, making sure he did not tell anyone he was Chainsaw Man. At one point, he threatened Denji that if he revealed his identity as the Chainsaw Man, he would take action against him, which he did. While he acted casual and friendly, it was obvious that someone important had given him strict orders. Who is he really working for in the Chainsaw Man universe? What’s his true purpose? These questions keep fans talking and theorizing about what’s really going on with Yoshida.
Yoshida’s Relationship with the Chainsaw Man

The relationship between Yoshida and Denji (Chainsaw Man himself) is pretty interesting. In Part 1 of Chainsaw Man, Yoshida was Denji’s bodyguard, keeping him safe from assassins. They are not best friends or anything, but Yoshida seems to find Denji somewhat amusing.
In Part 2 of Chainsaw Man, things get more complicated. Yoshida enrolls in Denji’s school and starts actively keeping tabs on him. Sometimes he acts like he and Denji are friends, but at the end of the day, he is there on a mission. He states clearly to Denji that his primary objective was to watch him. This sort of put Yoshida in control of some things that Denji could and could not do.
Since Yoshida is such a mystery, it’s hard to tell if he sees Denji as a friend, just a job, or maybe even a threat. One thing we know for certain is that he looks out for Denji and has his best interests at heart.
Conclusion
Hirofumi Yoshida is still one of Chainsaw Man’s most interesting characters. There are still so many questions about his character that Fujimoto has not answered yet. Who does he work for? Where did he come from? How is he as strong as he is? And many more.
Whether he’s an ally, an enemy, or something in between, Yoshida’s role in Chainsaw Man is important. As the story continues to unfold, fans are eager to learn more about this character and how his journey will shape the fate of the Chainsaw Man and the world around them.
