In this article, we discuss the potential reasons for the cancellation of the Spider-Man 2 DLCs and the events that led to it.

On October 19, 2024, Sony and Insomniac announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on PC on January 30, 2025. As per Insomniac Games, the game will have all the features of the new patch, such as new suits and new game+. However, the PC port of Spider-Man 2 will not be released with new DLCs.
Insomniac Games released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as a PS5 exclusive on October 20, 2023. The game received praise from fans and critics alike on release.
DLCs Were Reportedly Planned for Spider-Man 2 but Were Cancelled

Fans expected Insomniac to release story-driven DLCs for Spider-Man 2 as they did for the first game. The first game in Marvel’s Spider-Man series received three paid DLCs after its launch.
The ransomware attack by a hacker group named Rhysida on Insomniac in December 2023 reportedly led to numerous leaks about future Insomniac Games. The leaks suggested that Insomniac did plan a DLC trilogy for Spider-Man 2. They also planned to release a Venom game in 2025, followed by a Wolverine IP in 2026, and finally an unannounced X-Men title in 2030.
In the first game, the three DLCs as a whole were named The City That Never Sleeps. The first installment, The Heist, was released in October 2018, and The Turf Wars and The Silver Lining followed.

According to the leaks, the three planned Spider-Man DLCs were Beetle Infestation, Extreme Carnage, and Spider-Verse Anomaly.
Fans have speculated that Beetle Infestation was going to be about Tombstone’s daughter Janice Lincoln. Unlike her father, the character never appeared in any of the Insomniac Spider-Man games. The reports also suggested that Janice was going to take up the mantle of Beetle, who is a well-known character in the Marvel comic books.
An issue in Spider-Man 2 patch 1.002.00 granted players access to a developer menu accidentally. In that menu players also discovered a planned DLC named Beetle Villain Arc, and there were nine options in it. One of those options was named Beetle Janice Intro.

The reports claimed that Extreme Carnage was the name of the next DLC. And it involved the red symbiote Carnage, a popular Spider-Man villain. Insomniac has already teased Carnage in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
According to the leaks, Spider-Verse Anomaly was the name of the last DLC. The reports said that this DLC was going to be a crossover between Insomniac’s Spider-Man games and Sony’s Animated Spider-Verse movie Universe. A Spider-Verse theme filter was going to be one of the features in the DLC.
The Cancellation Of The DLCs
There’s no news on why the DLCs were cancelled.
Some reports have suggested that the Spider-Man 2 DLCs were going to be free and smaller in scope than usual, which could be a potential reason. Since the DLCs were going to be free, many have speculated that Sony and Insomniac considered the financial investment to be unprofitable. The smaller scope of the DLCs prevented them from putting a price tag on it.
Even with no DLC announcement, Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 is releasing on PC on January 30, 2025, and fans are looking forward to it.
