Zenitsu in Demon Slayer has one of the best redeeming moments, and fans will witness it in the Infinity Castle arc.
The Demon Slayer series has created an incredible array of characters that fans have come to love. Fans who have read the manga realize that the writer has a knack for creating complex characters. The plot is so simple that even a young child can understand it. However, that is the beauty of Shonen titles. Demon Slayer has perfectly executed the fundamentals, which is why it’s an interesting show to watch.
Some characters have shown steady progression that is rather linear in nature. Tanjiro is one such example. However, a few characters have redeeming moments that quite literally shocked the entire fanbase. Zenitsu Agatsuma is one of those characters in Demon Slayer.
Zenitsu Agatsuma is Jigoro Kuwajima’s student. He learned the Thunder Breathing Technique, one of the toughest styles to master. It heavily relies on speed and power because the user is expected to attack in the blink of an eye. Zenitsu was never considered a prodigy because all he could perform was the first form. There are six forms in total, and Zenitsu created the seventh one in the manga. People would scoff at him for not being able to perform any of the other forms. However, he managed to have one of the best redeeming moments in Demon Slayer, thanks to his grit and determination.

Zenitsu’s Humble Beginnings in Demon Slayer
Zenitsu struggled early on in his life. He was never inclined toward fighting or swordsmanship. Furthermore, he hated every second he had to train and only did it because he looked up to Jigoro. The former Thunder Hashira was like a grandfather to him. They shared a close bond, and he instilled important values in Zenitsu. He would constantly cry and was a coward. This was evident even after the Final Selection.
However, seeing someone cry and whine after surviving the Final Selection test was odd. As mentioned earlier, Zenitsu could never perform any of the Thunder Breathing forms except for the first one.
This put him in a disadvantageous position because he was not versatile. He constantly relied on the same move, and the enemies were capable of observing this. However, he found a way to perform the same technique faster. Additionally, he had a “Godspeed” version, which took a massive toll on his body. That being said, he could still only perform the first form.
Another weakness was that he could fight only after losing consciousness due to fear. Following that, his muscle memory would kick in and allow him to take on demons.
The Tipping Point for Zenitsu in Demon Slayer
Zenitsu Agatsuma undergoes a massive change after a particular incident. As mentioned earlier, he was quite close to Jigoro Kuwajima. Unfortunately, his beloved teacher took his own life to repent for his mistake. One of his students became a demon. Zenitsu’s upperclassman ended up begging for his life after losing to Kokushibo, the strongest Upper Moon demon in the series.
Following this, he became a demon, and the news finally reached Jigoro. He committed Seppuku, which was one of the most painful ways to die. This news reached Zenitsu, and his demeanor completely shifted. He was no longer the demon-fearing coward. He snapped and went after Kaigaku with a bloodlust that could not be quenched. Therefore, this event became one of the biggest plot points, and Zenitsu evolved as a character.
Zenitsu’s Redeeming Moment in Demon Slayer
Zenitsu enters the Infinity Castle with the sole intention of killing Kaigaku. He was out for vengeance, and the resulting fight is probably the best part of the upcoming story arc. Usually, we see Zenitsu shudder in fear, lose consciousness, and fight purely on muscle memory and instincts. This time around, there was no fear. In fact, Zenitsu engaged in verbal jousting before he let his sword do the talking. Furthermore, he came up with zingers that shocked the entire fanbase.
It’s hard to call it a fight because Zenitsu was so powerful that he took down Kaigaku without even taking any damage. This was a one-sided beatdown that didn’t even last long. Kaigaku was not just an Upper Moon demon, but he also had access to Thunder Breathing. However, none of this mattered to Zenitsu because he finished the job in no time. Zenitsu created a form of his own called Flaming Thundergod. This move killed Kaigaku in an instant. The Upper Moon demon couldn’t dodge Zenitsu’s attack and died momentarily.
Zenitsu’s Journey in Demon Slayer
Zenitsu was immature and a coward. Not many people took him seriously. In fact, viewers didn’t really have much expectation from him. He certainly shocked everyone when his instincts took over, and he defeated the Tongue Demon.
However, that wasn’t indicative of greatness. The death of his mentor changed him completely. He went from a whiny coward to a stoic and dependable man. He even contributed toward Muzan’s death in the series. Zenitsu Agatsuma spent hours honing his skills and ended up becoming one of the fastest demon hunters in the series.
Towards the end of Demon Slayer, Zenitsu could be comparable to a weak Hashira. Zenitsu’s personal journey has been an absolute treat to watch. He embodies all the values that a typical Shonen anime has. Grit and determination will always result in greatness. No matter how one’s story begins, they have complete control over its ending. Zenitsu proved to himself and to everyone else around him that he is a force to be reckoned with.
