The primary purpose of gears in Ball X Pit is to upgrade the Pit Lift. The Pit Lift allows you to descend into the pit to access the different levels. By default, the Pit Lift has access to the first level, the Bone X Yard. Levels below this are locked and only accessible once you complete the first level twice. How To Unlock Gears in Ball X Pit
The steps to unlock gears are fairly simple. The tough part, however, is actually executing them. To unlock a single gear, you will need to play a round in the pit with any character of your choosing. Once you progress through the entire round and defeat the boss, you will attain the gear. For the second gear, you will need to play one more round on the same level, this time with a different character.
Once you complete the round for the second time, you will unlock the second gear. This will unlock the next level in the pit. It does not matter if you play the round on either normal or harder difficulty as long as you are using two different characters to complete the level.
