Beats new redesigned Powerbeats Pro 2 features the new Apple H2 chip, a new heart-rate monitoring sensor, and noise-canceling.
Beats released the new PowerBeats Pro 2 five years after the first Powerbeats Pro, which was released in May 2019. The popular ear-hook style wireless sports earbuds have come with lots of improvements. The new redesigned earbuds have a better ergonomic design and a newer driver.
The new Powerbeats Pro 2 features a more powerful and efficient Apple H2 chip, a new built-in heart-rate sensor, and active noise cancellation for the first time in PowerBeats. They are priced similarly to the Airpods Pro 2. Let’s take a deeper look at the new PowerBeats Pro 2 by Beats.

The New Tech
The latest Beats earbuds come with a lot of technology packed in. The Apple H2 chip gives a lot of top-class features to the Beats, including active noise cancellation from the Airpods Pro 2. It’s able to reduce outside sounds significantly and allow just higher tones through. The transparency mode in these earbuds is very good, and when activated, it doesn’t even feel like an earbud is being worn.
The earbuds have redesigned acoustics and include personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head-tracking to create immersive sound. The adaptive EQ tunes the sound in real time based on the user’s ear fit. It comes with a new heart rate monitoring system. This works by sensing the heart rate through the sensor in the earbuds. It has a higher accuracy rate than heart rate monitoring systems on watches.
The Powerbeats Pro 2 works with both Android and Apple devices. However, it does have some Apple-exclusive features, which include Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking, Hands-Free Siri, Audio Sharing, and iCloud pairing across all Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account. The Find My feature is included for both Apple and Android users, although the more Precise Finding feature found in Airpods Pro 2 is not found in these earbuds.
Battery Life and Mic Quality
The battery life of the Powerbeats Pro 2 has been improved from the original Powerbeats Pro despite being 33% smaller than the originals. The Apple H2 chip makes it efficient, giving it a longer battery life. The Powerbeats Pro 2 delivers up to 10 hours with ANC off and 8 hours with ANC on per charge, while the charging case adds 35 hours of playback with ANC off and 28 hours with ANC on.
Thanks to the Apple H2 chip, it has much improved microphone quality. The H2 chip helps microphones to pick up the user’s voice while removing unwanted background noise. It performs well in noisy environments and does a good job of filtering out background noises.
Design Changes
The PowerBeats Pro 2 comes with a few design changes. It has better overall ergonomics and redesigned acoustic housing, making the earbuds 20% lighter. It comes with 4 different sizes of earbud tips for every different ear size.
One of the features of Beats earbuds is that they come with a physical button to control playback and a separate button for volume. Like the original Powerbeats Pro, this also comes with an IPX4 splashproof and sweatproof rating.
Overall
The Powerbeats Pro 2 has been redesigned and upgraded in every aspect from the originals. The new redesign makes these earbuds lighter, which helps them stay in place when moving. The much improved sound quality along with the added noise-canceling feature with great transparency mode makes these great even for audiophiles.
The built-in heart-rate monitoring system, which provides more accurate data than smartwatches, is a big pro for these earbuds. The heart rate sensor is accurate but functions only when both earbuds are in use. However, users will be required to rely on third-party apps to get heart-rate monitoring results, which is a bit of a problem for iPhone users.
