The RX 9070 is the little brother to the RX 9070 XT and has the same 16GB VRAM configuration. It is particularly suited for buyers who want the performance of an RTX 5070 but do not have an ambitious budget and are looking for a more future-proof solution. In the hands of an advanced user, the 9070 can be BIOS-modded to reach performance levels close to that of the RX 9070 XT. For stock performance, consider the following optimized titles, which will play seamlessly at 1440p desktop resolution.

1. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (Action-Adventure)

AC: Valhalla is a well-optimized action-adventure RPG from Ubisoft, which offers a very grindy gaming approach. It’s very different from Assassin’s Creed 2 or Brotherhood in terms of combat, stealth, and the overall atmosphere. Next to Black Flag, Valhalla comes close in terms of open-world map size.

As for performance, you can expect to max out the game at ultra settings, 1440p, without the use of upscaling, and still enjoy high frame rates. Depending on your GPU’s make, model, or manufacturer, you may have unlocked power limits available. If that is the case, make sure the power limit is set to the maximum percentage allowed.

2. Baldur’s Gate 3 (RPG)

If you like top-down, turn-based RPGs, then you are in for a ride with Baldur’s Gate 3 on the RX 9070. There are two best ways to play this game: one is maxing out everything at native 1440p, or using competitive settings, which makes the game heavily CPU-bound but delivers intense combat. If you choose the competitive route, ensure you have a Ryzen 7 5700X3D-tier CPU or better, and enable Resizable BAR; otherwise, you will face a CPU bottleneck.

3. Doom Eternal (FPS)

Doom Eternal is a highly optimized title from id Software. The RX 9070 has enough horsepower to run the game at native 4K ultra-nightmare settings and stay comfortably under the VRAM limit. Doom: The Dark Ages is also a great fit if you want to play the latest release, but in terms of optimization, it receives mixed reviews.

We would have preferred to include Civ 7 instead of Civ 6, mainly because Civ 7 currently has numerous optimization issues that require further development. Still, if you want to play Civ 7, you can, but performance will not be as good as Civ 6. That said, if you are going for competitive settings in Civ 6, ensure you have a CPU tier on par with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or the Intel Core i9 14900K (tuned with fast DDR5 and tight timings). Otherwise, Civ 6 will be CPU-bound in competitive settings.

Verdict

All of the games mentioned here will run flawlessly on your RX 9070. For both competitive and casual gaming, pairing a fast CPU with the 9070 and enabling Resizable BAR will provide an excellent overall gaming experience. Using incorrect combinations, such as pairing the 12400F without Resizable BAR enabled with the 9070 while playing in competitive settings, will result in a heavy CPU bottleneck.
