Marvel Rivals didn’t include Ultron as the first flying Strategist on the roster without considering his counters. While having a Strategist take to the skies may be new to the game, it isn’t “overpowered” because the developers have already put in ways to counter him.

If you are finding it difficult to defeat Ultron while he is flying and sniping you from a distance, you have come to the right place. In this guide, we will help you by suggesting five heroes that “hard-counter” Ultron in a 1v1.

Ultron’s Counters in Marvel Rivals

Counter-picking in Marvel Rivals is usually a simple process if you can understand what kind of character the enemy is playing as (and how they are playing it). Kindly note that the following short list is based on the writer’s experience and does not reflect the objective truth. Moreover, individual skill, team composition, and team effort can prove counter-picks useless at times. With that said, the following heroes will give Ultron a run for his money when caught in a 1v1:

  • Spider-Man
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Hela
  • The Punisher
  • Adam Warlock

1. Spider-Man

Spider-Man is a dive duelist who does a lot of damage when up close and personal in Marvel Rivals.

There’s a dialogue exchange between Loki and Ultron that takes place in the spawn room before the match starts. The God of Mischief asks Ultron which Avenger he hates the most. Without giving it a second thought, Ultron replies, “Spider-Man.” The mechanical menace says so because he finds Peter Parker’s constant need to blabber annoying.

However, it is also fitting because Spider-Man is a hard-counter to Ultron. New York City’s Pride is a nightmare for all fliers, and Ultron is no different. Even though the latter is a hitscan character, Spidey’s erratic movements make it harder to fight him.

2. Scarlet Witch

Another Duelist who can annoy Ultron beyond comprehension is Scarlet Witch. Even though she is a successful flanker, Scarlet Witch makes an even better anti-flier. The catch is that she has to be within range of the flyer to use her primary. If she is able to go unnoticed by Ultron’s team, she can bring him down without much of an issue using her primary attack and alternate fire. Ultron’s mobility isn’t as fast as Iron Man’s, so he will eventually have to succumb to Wanda’s chaos.

3. Hela

The Goddess of Death is nothing but a mobile SAM turret. Although Hela requires skill to aim her shots, the output is incredibly rewarding if you get it right. Four shots to the body or two shots to the head will put Ultron down, even from a great distance. Since she is a hitscan character, she doesn’t need to keep her projectile speed in mind.

4. The Punisher

The Punisher is one of the easiest characters to learn on the roster, and he happens to be a good counter to Ultron in Marvel Rivals. Since he is also a hitscan character, he proves to be a better choice against Ultron.

He will put him down with ease using his Assault Rifle, which was buffed during the balance changes in Season 2.5. Now he has more ammo and damage. This means that Frank Castle will have a better chance at punishing Ultron when he takes to the skies.

5. Adam Warlock

Despite having a cape, Adam Warlock is unable to fly in Marvel Rivals. Unironically, though, he is a great counter to all flying characters in the game. Adam’s primary attack is a hitscan with 15 ammo. He can also use his alternate fire to charge up a burst of five ammo at a time. However, the latter is a projectile attack, which may not be useful against flying heroes like Ultron.

So, when playing against Ultron, you may want to take a moment out of healing your teammates and focus your primary attack on the evil sentient machine killing your squishy teammates. Even in a 1v1, Adam can outheal Ultron, who is unable to heal himself without any allies around.
