RPGs need a lot of time and investment, but the depth of gameplay and the immersive experience make it worth it. You will rarely find such in-depth mechanics in any other genre. The freedom that RPGs offer, along with the deep and expansive lore, are some major reasons why good RPGs are so successful.

In light of that, we’re taking a look at some of the best RPGs you can access with a PS Plus subscription. Most of these are well-known AAA titles that have been going strong despite being released a few years back.

RPGs To Play if You Have a PS Plus Subscription

1. Fallout 4

The latest major single-player Fallout RPG, Fallout 4 has several pros and cons over its predecessors. There’s no doubt that this is the Fallout with the best gunplay. However, the weapons themselves will remind you that this is, after all, a Bethesda game; most of them don’t feel realistic in terms of damage, range, and other factors.

Nevertheless, Fallout 4 has a detailed open world filled with secrets and extensive lore to explore. The main story isn’t as great as New Vegas, but there are tons of well-written side quests to complete. Finally, being a Bethesda game, you can completely revamp your experience and fine-tune it to your liking with the help of mods.

2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

As the biggest and best Witcher game to date, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt improves upon every aspect of the franchise. The combat feels much more fluid, there’s a bigger and more detailed open world to explore, the customization is greatly improved, and the branching storyline has much bigger things at stake.

With over 200 game awards, the Witcher 3 is often considered one of the best video games ever made, so you definitely need to try it out on the PS Plus Catalog. CDPR even released a free “Next-Gen” update for next-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) and PC that features ray-tracing and improved graphics.

3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition

Skyrim is probably one of the most popular RPGs ever released, with total sales exceeding 30 million. The game has also been released seven times, so it might be a bit repetitive at this point. Despite this, being a Bethesda RPG, Skyrim has tons of mods you could try out that change the experience completely.

Of course, you won’t be able to access all types of mods on consoles, but there’s more than enough to justify a new playthrough. The Special Edition is the best way to play Skyrim, as it features improved graphics and some minor bug fixes.

So, go ahead and explore the high fantasy world of Tamriel with some immersive quests and some of the deepest, most expansive lore in an RPG.

4. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

The original Deus Ex is often considered one of the best ImSims ever made. Human Revolution and Mankind Divided are both prequels to the original game, and they play out quite differently. Nevertheless, the familiar immersive sim elements, along with the emphasis on stealth and branching dialogue choices, are all there.

Mankind Divided continues the story of Adam Jensen, first introduced in Human Revolution, exploring a dystopian cyberpunk universe rife with conspiracies. This time, you get to explore Prague, which serves as a main hub, while completing several missions on various levels.

5. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

If you’re a long-time JRPG fan, you might have already played Final Fantasy VII and even consider it one of the best in the genre. So, naturally, the next thing you should do is to play the Final Fantasy VII Remake. This is the first of a planned trilogy, with Rebirth being the second and latest title.

Remake attempts to retell the story of FFVII but in a modern JRPG format, with massive graphical overhauls and a much more enhanced gameplay experience. There are some major changes to the story as well, which will attract both old and new players alike. Remake Intergrade is just the enhanced PS5 and Windows version of FFVII Remake.

6. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

The Mount & Blade games provide a much more sandbox experience compared to the rest of the titles here. You are free to set your own story through an RPG-like progression system that feels incredibly rewarding. Unlike the other games on this list, the world of Mount & Blade is very identical to our own and doesn’t feature any magic or sci-fi tech.

You can choose to be a mercenary, a simple soldier, an upstart warlord, or even unify the entire continent under a massive army. So, this RPG on PS Plus is a must-have for history buffs.

7. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous – Enhanced Edition

If you’re looking for a more traditional CRPG on PS Plus, your best bet is Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. This game features the most satisfying role-playing experience out of all the titles on this list. You can choose from countless different classes, all of which are highly customizable. The game is set in the Pathfinder universe, which in turn is based on Dungeons & Dragons.

While it’s played from an isometric perspective, the graphics are quite impressive for a modern CRPG title. As a traditional CRPG, gameplay is completely party-based, so you’ll need the ideal party composition based on your build. Wrath of the Righteous is a sequel to Pathfinder: Kingmaker, although the story is completely different.
