Here are the optimal settings for playing Cyberpunk and the Phantom Liberty DLC, with an RTX 4090 at 1440p and 4K resolutions.

The RTX 4090 is the second fastest GPU, next to the RTX 5090. Playing Cyberpunk: 2077, the base game and the Phantom Liberty DLC, is absolutely a delightful experience one can have. You can technically play with high RT settings at 4K in both the base game and the DLC; however, enabling path tracing will require you to drop down to 1440p, and that too with upscaling. The settings below represent a high FPS 1440p RT and 4K experience for you.

Note: Due to the RTX 4090’s sheer power, at 1440p with RT, you will need a CPU equivalent to an i9-13900K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D to avoid CPU bottlenecks. At 4K, though, this is a GPU-bound load. With upscaling, it’s still pretty much the same as in 1440p, due to the lower internal render resolution.

A few keynotes to consider:

  • If you need additional framerates, you can either lower RT quality to low or medium, or instead, turn on FG (Frame Generation)
  • With 24GB VRAM, you won’t run out of memory, even if you decide to opt for path tracing at 1440p. 
  • If you want to experiment with path tracing but are concerned about the FPS hit. Numerous mods on Nexusmods optimize the path tracing load.
