Knowing how to drain the reservoir in Blue Prince is important so you can ride a boat and explore the area. Additionally, you will also need to set the water levels by operating a pump mechanism to operate the boat. It’s one of the puzzles featured in the game before you can make your way to the secret Room 46. The process can be a bit complicated, especially if you don’t know where to start.

How To Drain the Reservoir in Blue Prince
The purpose of draining the reservoir is to be able to ride a boat to the other side of the area. Here is how you can do it:
Access the Underground Area
In order to gain access to the area to drain the reservoir, you need to unlock the underground area. This is where the boat you can ride is docked. However, you still need to lower the water levels in order to ride the boat. To do this, head to the Pump Room and drop the water level.
Pump Room Configurations
The Pump Room enables you to alter both the reservoir’s and the fountain’s water levels. Remember, docking needs to be done at water level 13. Yet, if you wish to make use of the boat and drive around the underground region, you must drop the water level down to six.
Here is how you can do it:
- Use the first tank to drain four levels initially. This should bring the reservoir down to Level 9.
- Fill the fountain with the first and second tanks.
- Drain the kitchen using the second tank.
- Switch the reservoir to the second tank now and drain one level out. This should place the reservoir at water level 8.
- Fill the first tank to two levels by emptying the reserve tank.
- Drain the last two levels from the reservoir to the first tank.

Once you complete the process and drain enough water from the reservoir, you should be able to access the boat in Blue Prince. You can then ride the boat to navigate the underground section and explore the area.
