Our guide will help you to unlock the Foundation elevator in Blue Prince. With this elevator, you can travel to the underground sections.
Blue Prince drops you into a manor with a myriad of secrets, rooms and puzzles that you’ll slowly uncover as you keep progressing. For instance, at first, you might not even know that there is an underground section of the manor you can explore.
To get to the basement, you’ll first need to draft the Foundation room, then take a ride on the foundation elevator all the way down to the depths of the Mt. Holly estate. Feeling confused by all that? Well, in this guide, we’ll explain how you can operate the Foundation elevator in Blue Prince and what areas it opens up.
How To Access the Foundation Elevator in Blue Prince?
You’ll need to build the Foundation room if you want to access the elevator. The option to draft this specific room will randomly appear in the available draft options. There’s no predicting when it might show up due to the RNG factor in the game. For some, it shows in the first few days of exploration, while for others, it can take longer.
However, unlike other rooms inside the manor, the Foundation room does not change position every night. So, it’s easier to find it due to its stable positioning. This also means you’ll need to be very precise when it comes to placing the Foundation room.

Here are a few tips for the placement:
- Ideally, try to place the Foundation Room as close to the Entrance Hall as possible. This will ensure you can cover the distance to the Foundation Room and elevator while taking the least number of steps.
- Placing it near the Antechamber can be beneficial too, since you can quickly grab the Basement Key from there. However, this placement requires you to path all the way to the Antechamber by drafting connector rooms in between. Keep in mind that the Basement Key returns to the Antechamber at the beginning of every in-game day.
However, the elevator won’t be accessible as soon as you draft the Foundation Room. Once you have this room, you’ll need to draft another room to the right of the Foundation. Regardless of the kind of room you build here, make sure that it has a doorway on the right wall. As you enter the room, you’ll find that the doorway on the right wall will have become a contraption to control the elevator’s movements. Interacting with it will play a cutscene and lower you into the manor’s basement.
Proceed through the Basement by opening the way using the Basement Key. After a bit of traversal, you’ll be able to unlock the way forward into the true Underground section within the manor.
