Blue Prince is a puzzle adventure game with different roguelike elements. And because of it, players might think that their progress will get reset every day. This is true for the most part, but there are certain things that stay with you once you get them and give you some bonuses. These are called permanent upgrades or permanent additions.
In this article, we will be exploring these permanent upgrades and telling you everything you need to know about them. However, we must warn you that you might get some spoilers in this guide.
What Are the Permanent Upgrades in Blue Prince?
As we mentioned briefly before, permanent upgrades are essentially new additions in the game that do not get reset at the end of the day and continue to be a part of your journey throughout your playthrough. Unlike other aspects of Blue Prince, these additions serve as a steady progress marker. Additionally, you can get the permanent upgrades in the game by solving some puzzles around the house.
They might prove valuable to you in the long run, so we recommend that you try to get them. Now, we will discuss each permanent upgrade in a more detailed manner.
West Gate Path
The West Gate Path is a permanent upgrade in Blue Prince. You might stumble upon it while exploring the mansion in the game. It is fairly easy to spot because it looks like well a gate that seemingly leads to a bridge and a small building. To unlock it, you will have to complete some specific tasks and puzzles. Once it is unlocked, the West Gate Path will be permanently yours to use, and you will be able to use it at the start of every day.
Additionally, unlocking the West Gate Path will give you access to build an Outer Room. It is a room that you will be able to use every day to gain some benefits or buffs. Lastly, after getting this permanent upgrade, you will get the option to build the following rooms:
- Tool Shed – 2 Special Items
- Shelter – Protects you from the negative effects of the next 3 Red Rooms drafted.
- Schoolhouse – Adds 8 Classrooms to today’s draft
- Shrine – Make an offering and receive a blessing
- Root Cellar – Rooms in your house will be more likely to contain dig spots today
- Hovel – Special Floorplans now cost additional Steps instead of Gems.
- Trading Post – Items for Trade
- Tomb – Each time you draft a Dead End in your house, spread 5 Coins in the Tomb
Gemstone Cavern
The Gemstone Cavern is the second permanent upgrade in this article. Players must solve a colored sequence puzzle to unlock it. Once done, you will get access to a small mining area. After that, you will find some notes that speak of a secret beneath the mansion. But the highlight of the Gemstone Cavern is that it gives you 2 additional gems at the start of each day, which means that you will get to enjoy more gems. Lastly, yes, this benefit is permanent.
Apple Orchard
Players might find the Apple Orchard around the mansion if they are fond of exploring. It will be near Simon’s Tent. However, when you try to approach it, a padlock might stand in your way. You will have to draft some rooms and solve some puzzles to get inside the Orchard.
But once unlocked, it will give you an extra twenty steps at the start of each day, bumping your starting steps every day from 50 to 70. So, the Apple Orchard in Blue Prince can become many players’ favorite permanent upgrade.
Blackbridge Grotto
Blackbridge Grotto is the third permanent upgrade in this guide. It is essentially an entirely new exploration area inside a cavern. Additionally, you will be able to find this place near the mansion, and it might prove to be a great place if you want to look for items and clues.
However, the real benefit of unlocking Blackbridge Grotto is that it grants you remote access to an additional terminal every day. For example, if you draft Security, Shelter, Laboratory, or an Office one day, you can access their terminals remotely.
Blue Tents
The Blue Tents act a bit differently than some of the other permanent upgrades we have mentioned in the article so far. More specifically, it gives you additional clues instead of a buff or bonus. Furthermore, you will get an additional Blue Memo for every Blue Room draft on Rank 8 of the mansion. However, the memos and their content vary. While some of them give you teasers for future mysteries, others simply add more context to the lore.
