Borderlands 4 is extremely demanding at 4K resolution. Surprisingly, games are GPU-bound at 4K, but with Borderlands, both the CPU and GPU are stressed simultaneously. The build below solves the bottlenecking problem. We believe it is one of the best possible high-end hardware combinations you can find right now. The hardware choices we have suggested ensure that you do not have to overpay at the very high end to get premium performance.

Note: We have omitted the use of a monitor and peripherals such as keyboard and mouse, and a computer case, as these mainly depend on user preference. You will be requiring the mentioned peripherals to utilize this PC build. As for Windows, the trial version will get your setup running.

The CPU we have chosen is the Ryzen 9 9950X. We could have suggested the 9950X3D instead, but there are multiple reports of X3D chips blowing up on motherboards. The 9950X offers identical multi-threading performance to the 9950X3D, but only lacks the X3D chip. That said, multi-threading performance is vital due to Borderlands 4’s design, as it pushes for very high CPU usage, and the 16 cores and 32 threads are plenty for it.

To keep things cool, we chose the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro. A premium 360mm AIO that doesn’t break the bank and has no fancy LCD screen.

For the RAM, get the Corsair Vengeance 64GB Dual Channel DDR5 6400 MT/s modules. With this, you get to max out the 1:1 memory controller mode within your CPU and extract maximum performance out of it. The motherboard, Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE, ensures that you have a good BIOS, an excellent VRM, and the ability to hit 6400 MHz with 64GB of memory. We could have suggested a more expensive board, but that would be overpaying for features you may not end up using. As for the storage, we chose the Gen4 Samsung 990 PRO 2TB model as it is relatively cheaper than Gen 5 drives.

For the video card, we picked the reference RTX 5080 from Asus. At $999, this is an excellent buy. Once you get your hands on the 5080, ensure you unlock its power limits and push for a maximum overclock; that way, you can reach within 5-10% of the 4090.

Lastly, powering everything is the MAG A850G PSU, which boasts an 80+ Gold rating and delivers 850W of power. It’s Gen 5 compatible, meaning your hardware is powered safely and efficiently.

Conclusion

This build will effortlessly handle Borderlands 4 with the high preset at native 4K. If you opt for 1440p, you will get a higher FPS experience. There is also the possibility to use frame generation or multi-frame generation and max out your monitor’s refresh rate. This build can power anything you throw at it, no matter how optimized or unoptimized the game is. The only downside is the 16GB VRAM on a $1000 GPU, which we believe may change with the RTX 50 Super series in the near future.
