Borderlands 4 was officially revealed on August 24 by 2K. The publishers also showed us some of the gameplay for the first time at the 2024 Game Awards, and the latest installment of this looter shooter franchise is shaping up to be its most ambitious title yet. But Gearbox seems to have another surprise for gamers. The developers have finally announced the official release date for Borderlands 4 with a new one-minute gameplay clip in the PlayStation State of Play. So, in this article, we will take a look at the new gameplay trailer and discuss the release date in detail.

As we mentioned earlier, the clip is only one minute long, so Gearbox hasn’t revealed a lot about the upcoming Borderlands 4. However, we did spot some notable things that can make players really excited for the latest title.
The trailer starts on a high, as the music hits in true Borderlands fashion. We see a crate opening with three unique weapons inside. Then the trailer kicks into another gear as the music ramps up, and we see some fluid, fast-paced action with lots of shooting and sliding, again in true Borderlands fashion. Visually, the franchise looks better than ever. The developers have promised fans that Borderlands 4 will have new traversal mechanics, and we have seen some bits and pieces of it in this clip.
Double Jump, Gliding, and More
Starting at the beginning, shortly after a few fast cuts, we saw the double jump twice. If you look carefully, you can see the player throwing projectiles at the enemy from an unusually high angle at the 25-second and 27-second marks in the clip. Additionally, we also saw some new weapons and the use of a grappling hook.
A new, more in-depth skill tree was also promised, but unfortunately, we have not seen it in the new clip. However, we did see what seemed to be gliding at the 44-second mark, which will be a new addition to the game. It could mean that the devs are teasing the gliding mechanic, but it could also be a double jump. The editing of the trailer made it a little hard to identify that particular portion of the clip, but it did capture the essence of the game.

Towards the end, we see a few different monsters and the player using a throwing knife at an enemy. Then the trailer cuts to the tagline of the game, “Break Free,” and we finally see the release date. If 2K follows its usual AAA marketing strategy, then we might see a full gameplay showcase in Spring 2025. As for the full game, the trailer revealed that Borderlands 4 will officially be released on September 23, 2025, and you can wishlist it now.
Conclusion
So, that is the end of the trailer breakdown. The clip was only a minute long, so there weren’t a lot of things to talk about, but we did manage to find some bits and pieces of the new mechanics and weapons teased by the developers. Overall, Borderlands 4 looks quite promising so far, and fans are eager to see how Gearbox improves the classic formula.
