After defeating the Splashzone boss and acquiring the glider, getting the access key will be your main hurdle. Although your character mentions a dead Timekeeper, the game uses this as a red herring to hide the real answer. However, the game tricks you with Claptrap interrupting, trolling you for being unable to get access to a simple elevator. If you are someone who jumped down the elevator path to find the answer below, you are not alone.

The game uses Claptrap’s incessant chatter as an outright distraction, pulling your attention away from a simple solution lying just feet away. You will likely approach the time guard and look for the secret key, but there’s a separate reaper goon who is lying dead down below. Here we break down how you can access the abandoned elevator.

The image above references the particular guard we are talking about. He is not a time guard but a different goon. Turn around from the elevator, face away from the elevator control, and look towards the balcony. Referring to the image above, look for a similar body. That said, when you approach him, there will be a green-colored access key within the guard’s neck area. Press E to acquire it. As we have already acquired the key, hence the image appears empty.

With the key in your hand, simply return to the elevator control panel and use it again. This time it will work, and Claptrap will not troll you. This will elevate Claptrap up to your level, and then he will instruct you to break the door to the Abandoned Post. After that, you can claim the Abandoned Safehouse and unlock fast travel.
