Follow our step-by-step guide to complete Borderlands 4’s Means of Ascent mission and reach Ascension Tower through Dominion City.
Means of Ascent sees the Vault Hunters entering the tyrannical Timekeeper’s home turf and finally taking the fight to his city. With a resistance foothold secured in Dominion City, Zadra suggests targeting the Ascension Tower, where she once walked with the Timekeeper and admired their creation. Means of Ascent starts right where The Falling Wall ends, after speaking with Zadra in The Lockaway safehouse.
Borderlands 4: Means of Ascent Walkthrough
The 18th main mission in Borderlands 4, Means of Ascent features a significant difficulty spike over earlier missions, so meeting the level requirement is advisable.

Reach Ascension Tower
Exit the safehouse and follow the path through the Carcadia District until you reach an area with a destroyed bridge in the middle. Take the path to the right of the bridge, head up the ramp, and use the grappling hook to reach the platform above. Press the red button in the following chamber to open a path to the Terminus District.
Follow the road until the dead end, then take the stairs up and continue straight through the street. Follow the path up more stairs and enter the building on the right. However, just as you’re about to reach the Ascension Tower, a targeting triangle sends you back to the checkpoint. You must now obtain an Ordonite Capacitor to disable the targeting system.

Reach Rail Depot and Power Up Blast Doors
Head down the corridor to the south and turn left on the road to reach the Rail Depot. To access its entrance, grapple the triangular pylon and throw it at the power node to the north. With the power flow redirected, the entrance will swing open, and you can venture inside.
Kill all the enemies within the depot and their reinforcements. After defeating the Order forces, pick up pylons from the machine in the center and throw them at the four marked slots. Punch the switch next to the door in the southeast corner and head inside to pick up the Ordonite Capacitor.
Return to Ascension Tower
With the Ordonite Capacitor stowed away, retrace your steps to the Ascension Tower’s plaza and clear all Order enemies there. The Badass Domination Engines are priority targets in this fight, so bring them down quickly using Corrosive Damage. After the Order forces are dealt with, place the Ordonite Capacitor in the marked area at the center of the plaza. This completes “Means of Ascent” with a cutscene that leads directly into Plan Z.
