Learn how to complete Borderlands 4’s Null and Void side mission, rescue Conway, defeat Chugs, and secure the Outbounders’ escape.
‘Null and Void’ is a side mission involving a daring rescue to help the Outbounders escape Kairos. The quest becomes available after you complete ‘Rush the Gate,’ the 6th main story mission. Speak with Rush, located just south of The Launchpad faction town in The Howl, to start ‘Null and Void.’

Find Conway
The Outbounders cannot leave without their pilot, Conway, but she is missing. After speaking with Rush, head east until you arrive at the Wreck of the Nostalgia to find Conway. Interact with the bed in the dilapidated metal structure. Then, pick up the ECHO log next to the bed to update the objective and search for Conway in Hungering Plains.
Travel northeast over the wooden bridge and ascend a mountain to reach the next waypoint. Pick up the second ECHO log next to the camping chair and telescope. Follow the new lead east, toward Idolator’s Noose. The objective marker will lead you to a barred door with an intercom next to it.
Interact with the intercom, and you’ll be mistaken for a food delivery person by the Ripper guard. Venture south and pick up 10 food items around a crashed car to complete the Ripper’s order. All items lie within a 10-meter radius and glow blue, making them easy to spot.

Free Conway
Return to the intercom, use it to open the door, and kill the hangry Rippers. Enter the Ripper camp, and you’ll find Conway in a cage near its center. When a crane picks up her cage, follow it and defeat the Rippers gathered around the void. When you approach the crane, its operator, Erector Ed, will challenge you. Defeat Erector Ed and climb up the crane to use the switch at the top.
Next, energize the starboard engine by interacting with the green cogwheel opposite the crane. Use the grappling hook on the point above to reach the roof and initiate the warp pump. Reach Conway’s cage and shoot the claw above it to free Conway.
Kill Chugs
Allied reinforcements will arrive, and you have to defeat Chugs, the camp leader. Chugs has a cylindrical rotating shield around him. You can shoot the shield to destroy sections of it and damage his health bar. Alternatively, you can climb to higher ground using the grappling points around the camp and shoot at Chugs from above, where the shield doesn’t cover him. Speak with Rush to complete ‘Null and Void.’
