Phosphene weapons are exceedingly rare Legendary weapons with an iridescent rainbow color skin. While they have no gameplay effects of their own like Pearlescent weapons, Phosphene versions of Legendaries are nevertheless prized for their incredible rarity. When a Phosphene weapon drops, you can easily identify it by the rainbow glow effect around it.

Phosphene weapons have a tiny drop chance via any boss or chest that can provide Legendary loot. The best way to obtain a Phosphene weapon is to farm bosses at the highest Ultimate Vault Hunter mode difficulty possible.

When you obtain the Phosphene version of a Legendary weapon, the Phosphene skin is unlocked for the gun in the weapon customization menu. Phosphene weapons cannot be traded. Picking up a Phosphene weapon dropped by another player will give you the Legendary with its regular skin.

Best Bosses for Farming Phosphene Weapons

The bosses you should farm to obtain Phosphene Legendaries depend on which weapons you want the rainbow skin for. Target the boss who drops that Legendary weapon, and farm it until you obtain its Phosphene version. For example, farm The Backhive Auger Mine boss for the Phosphene Stop Gap Legendary sniper rifle.

You should also select a boss that is easy to beat and can be killed quickly. Picking a fast-moving boss like Shadowpelt, who dodges frequently, is not ideal. Such a boss can drastically increase the farming time for each boss fight. On the other hand, targeting a boss like Driller Hole is optimal since it’s easy to beat and drops Katagawa’s Revenge, a powerful Legendary sniper rifle.

Best Difficulty for Farming Phosphene Weapons

Playing at UVH 5 is the best option for farming Phosphene weapons. The higher the UVH mode, the greater your chances of receiving Legendary loot and their Phosphene variants. Although playing at high UVH difficulties increases the chances of getting Phosphene Legendaries, only pick a difficulty at which you can defeat the boss within a minute

By crafting a powerful build for your Vault Hunter, all bosses in the game can be defeated very quickly, even at UVH 5. However, if playing at any UVH difficulty prolongs the boss fight, you are better off turning UVH mode off and farming the boss more quickly.
