Discover how to complete The Kairos Job, a thrilling side mission in Borderlands 4, by solving puzzles and cracking a safe.
‘The Kairos Job’ is an elaborate heist-themed side mission in Borderlands 4, which cranks the game’s quirky charm up to 11. To unlock ‘The Kairos Job,’ you have to complete ‘One Fell Swoop,’ the fourth main mission, and speak with Shim in The Launchpad Faction Town within The Howl region. He will give you two ‘Scoundrel Roundup’ sub-missions to recruit Kilo and Glitch; accept both of them.
Borderlands 4: The Kairos Job Walkthrough
Scoundrel Roundup: Kilo
Begin assembling your heist crew by approaching Kilo first, as she is closer by, just northwest of The Launchpad. After speaking with Kilo, approach the pod behind her. Follow her instructions and execute each command within five seconds. Here are all the commands and the direction of their target components:
- Flip the switch: Left
- Shoot the panel: Up
- Pull the lever: Right
- Melee the button: Down
The order in which Kilo gives the instructions is randomized, so you’ll have to listen and act quickly according to each command.
Scoundrel Roundup: Glitch
Head north to Rootdown Estates and speak with Glitch, the tech guy. Prove yourself to him by entering the house and turning off the power relays without touching any lasers. Head in from the front door, crouch under the first laser barrier, and weave through the rest while interacting with the power relays.
Warehouse Roof Puzzles
Return to Shim and go over the heist plan. Then, rendezvous with the crew in front of the Debilitatory building to start the heist. Take the electro charges from Glitch and get on the warehouse roof by summoning your vehicle and jumping off the ramp on the building’s right (eastern) side. Place electro charges on the four arrays positioned at the roof’s corners.

Door Controls Puzzle
Head to the door controls on the west end of the roof and get ready to follow Kilo’s instructions. The controls are in a similar format to your training pod from when you first met Kilo, with the lever and switch exchanging positions.
Press the button and follow Kilo’s instructions within five seconds to complete the sequence successfully. React to the commands slowly and deliberately, as the main potential challenge in this puzzle is accidentally interacting with the wrong object. Here is the sequence of all her instructions:
- Pull the lever (left)
- Flip the switch (right)
- Pull the lever (left)
- Shoot the panel (top)
- Melee the button (bottom)
- Shoot the panel (top)
- Melee the button (bottom)
- Pull the lever (left)
- Melee the button (bottom)
- Flip the switch (right)
- Pull the lever (left)
- Shoot the panel (top)
- Flip the switch (right)
Turn Off the Power Relays
With the door open, your crew will join you on the roof. Kill the Order security forces, meet up with the crew, and shoot the explosives on the ground. Jump inside and prepare to turn off the power relays while avoiding the lasers. If you do accidentally trip the lasers, you’ll have to deal with more Order security, but it won’t fail the mission. However, you’ll get access to a bonus chest if you’re able to turn off all the relays without tripping any lasers.
To enter the room with the power relay on the upper floor, use the grapple point at the start of the left (north) wall. Then jump through the lasers by sticking to either side, alternating from right to left. Approach the rooms of the remaining power relays from the front entrances.

Open the Vault
With the vault accessible, melee all the indicated points until you find a weak spot. Fight off the Order security while Glitch cracks into the safe. Destroy the drones, pick up the rockets, and install the three rockets on the walls of the safe. Kill the enemies at the safe’s landing spot and open it. ‘The Kairos Job’ mission ends here, and you can loot the weapons chest inside the safe.
