The Toil of Spoiling Vis is one of the seven Abandoned Auger Mines in Borderlands 4. It is home to the Axemaul boss, a large creature clenching an axe between its teeth. Seeking out The Toil of Spoiling Vis and navigating your way through it to defeat Axemaul is especially lucrative because of the powerful Legendary loot dropped by the boss.
The Toil of Spoiling Vis Auger Mine Location
You can find The Toil of Spoiling Vis Auger Mine in the Carcadia District of Dominion City. However, in order to gain access to Dominion City, you will first need to complete the 17th main story mission, ‘The Falling Wall.’ Fast travel to the Final Defiance station and head directly north to enter The Toil of Spoiling Vis Abandoned Auger Mine.
How To Reach Axemaul
After entering The Toil of Spoiling Vis, glide down the elevator shaft and head straight to enter a vast cavern. Head through the tunnel in the right (north) wall and use your grappling hook on the purple orb in the room ahead. You will be transported to the initial cavern, this time on the high ground.
Jump and glide over to the opposite end of the cavern using the platform in the middle as a stepping stone. You’ll find two vending machines in the following chamber to restock for the Axemaul boss fight ahead. Once you’ve defeated the boss, you can return to this area to use Moxxi’s Big Encore station and fight Axemaul again.

The Toil of Spoiling Vis: Axemaul Boss Guide
- Axemaul has an Armor health bar in addition to Flesh. Using Corrosive and Radiation weapons can quickly deplete Armor, while Incendiary damage is especially effective against Flesh.
- Axemaul is nimble and repositions quickly to attack and dodge. When using powerful attacks, execute them while it is mid-combo to ensure you land a hit.
- Keep a few of the Manglers alive in case you get downed and need to kill them for a Second Wind.
- Aim for Axemaul’s head to land critical hits and deplete its health pool faster.
