In this article, learn whether the Pokemon you send to Legends Z-A can be transferred to other games in the franchise.

In an official update to the Pokemon HOME website, an announcement was made that any Pokemon transferred to Legends Z-A from previous games cannot be transferred back. This news comes on the heels of the September 12 Nintendo Direct, where multiple new Mega Evolutions were announced.
Pokemon HOME and Legends Z-A Will Be Able To Connect in 2026

On the Pokemon HOME website, it mentions that you will be able to connect your copy of Pokemon Legends Z-A to the app. This will allow you to transfer Pokemon that are available in the game’s code so that you can play with your favorites.
However, there is a catch. The website states that you cannot transfer Pokemon from Legends Z-A to previous games, which makes sense. But if you transfer a Pokemon from a different game on the Switch, like Scarlet and Violet, you can’t transfer them back to their original games. In essence, this leaves them trapped in Legends Z-A.
Is This New For the Pokemon Franchise?

This is not new, as in the past Pokemon belonging to different games were not transferable if the consoles could not connect. This goes all the way back to the Pokemon in Gold, Silver, and Crystal being untransferable to Ruby and Sapphire. However, there are a few issues with what’s happening here:
- The fact that a Pokemon from a different game sent through HOME cannot be sent back to its native game.
- All of the games in question are currently on the Switch, meaning there shouldn’t be a hardware issue.
Still, things could change in the future. With Pokemon Champions becoming the new venue for competitive Pokemon, there could be connectivity between those two. Or maybe Pokemon from previous games will get the Z-A buffs, leaving any Pokemon you send there a permanent resident. Either way, think twice before bringing any Pokemon to Legends Z-A.
