After you complete the Act 1 prologue scene in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, the game introduces you to the attribute system. There are five attributes that can be improved by leveling your characters.
Each attribute affects specific stats of characters. Additionally, each character has their own preferred stats to upgrade to become more efficient in their roles. This means you need to consider which attribute is best upgraded for each character.

List of All Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Attributes
There are five types of attributes in the game:
- Vitality: Increases Health and Attack Power stats for a character.
- Might: Increases Attack Power stats for a character.
- Agility: Increases Speed and Defense stats for a character.
- Defense: Increases Defense and Critical Rate stats for a character.
- Luck: Increases Speed and Critical Rate stats for a character.

How To Upgrade Attributes
To upgrade attributes, you need to level up your characters. Each level gives three Attribute Points. Once you have the required points, head to the character menu, click on “Upgrade Attributes,” and add points to your preferred attributes.
Can You Respec Your Attributes in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Yes, there is a respec option for your attributes in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 through the Recoat option. You can unlock this feature if you interacted with the painter Nicholas in the prologue of the game. Alternatively, you can get them by defeating bosses, opening picture cages, or purchasing them from a merchant for 10,000 Chroma.
Keep in mind that Recoats are rare and expensive. Make sure to plan ahead if you want to respec your characters in the game.

Best Attributes for Each Character
Each character has their own role in a party. This means each has their own preferred attributes and stats to upgrade:
- Gustav: Agility and Vitality
- Lune: Vitality and Defense
- Maelle: Luck and Might
- Sciel: Might and Agility
- Verso: Might and Luck
- Mononoco: Flexible, depending on player preference.
