Interacting with him initiates a side quest, where you need to find a Blue Mushroom to power up his creation, the Ultimate Sakapatate—which resembles the Sakapatate you defeated in the Ancient Sanctuary.

Where To Find the Blue Mushroom in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
The Blue Mushroom is found inside a cavern at the Esquie’s Nest. However, you need to meet certain prerequisites first, as the guard at the Esquie’s Nest requires a password. To obtain it, you will need to progress the Gestral Village storyline and complete the Gestral tournament.
Once you earn the password, head to the Esquie’s Nest via the Continent. As you proceed, the guard blocks your path toward the cave. Using the password clears him out of your way. Then, continue along the cave pathway, and you will eventually reach a cavern filled with glowing lanterns. Jump down on the right side, where you encounter an optional mime boss. You will find some glowing mushrooms in the corner. Approach them to collect the Blue Mushroom.
What To Do After Obtaining Blue Mushroom in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Upon collecting the Blue Mushroom, return to Karatom in Gestral Village. With the mushroom in hand, his creation is ready. He then challenges you to fight the Ultimate Sakapatate alone as Gustave.
Defeating the Ultimate Sakapatate in the boss battle completes the side quest. As a reward, you will receive the Pure outfit, a stylish white and gold costume for Gustave. Additionally, you will obtain three Polished Chroma Catalysts and a Recoat for the quest completion.
