Here is a quick walkthrough of everything you can find and do in the Esoteric Ruins of Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

The Esoteric Ruins is one of the many locations in Clair Obscur Expedition 33. It is another optional area with a few objectives, secret boss fights, and NPCs requiring your aid.
You will likely stumble into this area in the third act and find yourself lost in its maze. Fortunately, every puzzle has a solution, and completing it will grant you worthwhile rewards.
Where To Find the Esoteric Ruins in Clair Obscur Expedition 33?

The Esoteric Ruins are located on the west side of Old Lumiere in Clair Obscur Expedition 33. The in-game overworld is known as the Continent, and it has plenty of biomes and areas worth exploring. This optional area can be visited during the story’s third act, and you can lend a helping hand to a spirit Nevron.
A Paint Cage containing some Chroma is hidden within the maze. While other areas have hidden cosmetic items and music records, these collectibles can benefit your party in the future.
Finding Everything the Esoteric Ruins Have To Offer
Paint Cages are the in-game chests hidden across the overworld. These chests contain valuable loot, such as Chroma, the in-game currency, Pictos, Tints, and more. There is only one Paint Cage in the Esoteric Ruins, and it is near the Expedition Flag. Go over the wall and climb using a rope, then follow the path. To unlock a Paint Cage, you must destroy the locks, which are conveniently nearby. Once all locks are broken, proceed to the chest and collect your rewards.
Upon entering the ruins, you will meet a Portier Nevron asking you to collect some wood boards in the maze. Humor the poor Nevron and enter the maze, which can be tricky to navigate but not impossible. Here is a step-by-step process for solving the puzzle:
- Take a hard left after the entrance.
- Fire at the first glowing post.
- Fire at the second post from your current position.
- Press forward to the next area and make a right.
- Fire at the last post.
- Exit the maze with grapple points and return to the Nevron.
The Nevron will reward you with a Healing Tint Shard for your efforts. However, if you feel punchy, you can attack the NPC and fight it. The Nevron will drop better loot, such as Chroma Catalyst and Colour of Lumina.
