In this guide, we shall go over how to beat the Chromatic Veilleur in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, a boss in the Frozen Hearts.

The combat and boss fights of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 rely heavily on identifying and reacting to attack patterns. All bosses have a fixed moveset that you can master, allowing you to beat them with ease. But what happens when a boss has one single move, executed in two different ways? The Chromatic Veilleur puts this theory to the test by using the same attack in different ways to disorient you.
Found past the Glacial Falls Expedition Flag in the Frozen Hearts, the Chromatic Veilleur manages to be simple yet complex at the same time. The boss also hits deceptively hard, exacerbating the frustrations. In this guide, we shall go over how to beat the Chromatic Veilleur in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

The Chromatic Veilleur is weak to both Lightning and Light, making Verso and Lune the perfect picks to take on this boss. Verso has a strong arsenal of Light-based attacks and comes with a serviceable roster of Lightning attacks to complement them. Lune, too, is highly versatile and can deal damage with Lightning while also healing teammates.
As far as boss attacks are concerned, the boss only really has two. It’s the same attack but with two variants. The boss relies on the Blighted Strike to deal damage. The trick to distinguish the two variants is to ignore the Attack text prompts. It simply serves as a distraction. Instead, focus on the boss’s physical movements.
The first variant of this attack is a four-hit combo. The boss smashes the ground vertically twice before spinning and attacking for the third hit. The fourth hit is the same as the first two hits. The vertical hits are easy to parry. Press the parry button as soon as the boss’s arm completes a halfway arc to parry. For the spinning strikes, parry as soon as the boss begins spinning in place.
The second variant begins with three spinning strikes in a row, followed by a vertical strike at the end. The parry timings remain the same, so parry and counterattack to destroy the boss.
