Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is a new turn-based RPG by Sandfall Interactive. It takes place in a mysterious world inspired by Belle Époque France. Lumiere is the key location, where the story events unfold. Gustave and his teammates embark on an Expedition to stop the Paintress. During the early part of the gameplay, a Lumiere resident named Antoine shoots Gustave with a series of rapid-fire questions. These questions help you to learn the lore and mechanics of the game. Moreover, they also reward you with a Festival Token.

The Fracture is a catastrophic event that took place 67 years ago. It refers to the moment when the mysterious and eternal Paintress, appeared with her Monolith and painted the number 100, marking the beginning of the tragic events. It caused the world to break apart, and Lumiere city was thrown into the ocean, separated from the rest of the world.
Since then, the Paintress wakes once a year and paints a cursed number on the Monolith. It erases people of an age that matches the cursed number. Every year, an Expedition is sent out to learn clues and details about the Paintress, attempting to stop her so that she never paints again. The game takes place in the timeline of Expedition 33, led by Gustave.
