Crimson Desert, the upcoming open-world RPG from Korean developer Pearl Abyss, is easily one of the biggest releases of 2026. The game started development as a prequel to Black Desert Online. However, midway through development, Crimson Desert ended up transforming into a single-player RPG instead, with a standalone story and setting.
Apart from its action-packed combat system, one of the biggest features of Crimson Desert is its visuals. Crimson Desert is powered by the same proprietary engine that Black Desert Online uses. However, the engine has received some major tweaks and upgrades for Peral Abyss’ latest RPG.
The biggest improvements are made to the engine’s lighting and texture rendering pipelines. Crimson Desert PC System Requirements
Crimson Desert, much like Black Desert Online, is built using the BlackSpace engine. However, for their single-player RPG, Pearl Abyss introduced several improvements to BlackSpace. As such, Crimson Desert is a bit more demanding than Black Desert. That said, the system requirements for Crimson Desert are still on the lower end of the spectrum.

Crimson Desert Release Date and Platforms
Crimson Desert is scheduled to release on March 20, 2026. The game is coming to all current-gen platforms, as well as macOS.
