Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War DE (Definitive Edition) combines all Dawn of War expansions and delivers them in a neatly remastered bundle. This includes multiple campaigns across Dawn of War, Dark Crusade, Winter Assault, and Soulstorm. For beginners and players returning to the game after years, the content can be difficult to wrap your head around. With that in mind, here are some of the easiest campaigns you can play to warm up for the buffet of grimdark warfare.

5) Dawn of War

For players completely new to the series of Dawn of War games, the best place to start is at the beginning, with the Dawn of War campaign. It follows Captain Gabriel Angelos of the Blood Ravens’ Third Company as he makes planetfall alongside his battle brothers to assist the Imperial Guard against an Ork invasion. Soon, the captain is met by an Inquisitor investigating Chaos corruption, hinting at the presence of the archenemy.

The campaign slowly introduces new units and mechanics with each mission. It effectively serves as a tutorial for the series while also engrossing players in the setting’s story. However, for those who have some experience with Dawn of War, the campaign can feel slow-paced.

4)  Dark Crusade: Space Marines

After gaining some experience in how to play the Space Marines faction, you can put your skills to the test with a “Hard” difficulty Space Marine campaign in Dark Crusade. Widely considered to be the best campaign in the series, Dark Crusade allows you to build up special honour guard units as you fight for control over the planet Kronus.

Battles are initiated through a turn-based system on a campaign map. Your goal is to capture the entire planet by taking one territory at a time and defending it against the other factions’ attacks. Nonsensically, you will also be fighting the Imperial Guard faction rather than working alongside them or commanding them.

3) Dark Crusade: Necrons

After understanding the mechanics of the Dark Crusade campaign, the easiest race to experiment with is the Necrons. They are arguably the most overpowered faction in the game with tanky units, resurrection mechanics, and the best relic unit

2) Soulstorm: Tau

The Soulstorm campaign functions similarly to Dark Crusade, but has fewer features, less personality, and none of the fun commander banter. It does, however, have a much larger campaign map with two new factions. Tau is an easy and fun faction to play the Soulstorm campaign at “Hard” difficulty.

Their starting base is equipped with the Ar’Ka Cannon, which reduces the defence rating of any territory you attack. The first faction in your line of fire will be the Orks, who have a poor matchup against your long-range units. The first unit you acquire is the Fire Warrior Bodyguard. These specialized Fire Warriors have the longest range of any infantry, and will snipe Orks from a different zip code.

Destroying the Ork stronghold grants the Fast Population Growth bonus. This allows any garrisoned reinforcements in a territory to increase in number. The bonus will quickly shore up the defence of your territory against invaders while you attack another faction’s stronghold.

1) Dark Crusade: Orks

The best campaign offered by Dawn of War DE is the Dark Crusade Orks campaign. With your gathered experience of faction mechanics, the Ork campaign will snowball into a respectable “Waaagh!” in no time. You start off with the most powerful commander, Gorgutz ‘Ead ‘Unter, and can quickly build up an unstoppable green tide on any map.

Besides being easy, the campaign is most enjoyable because of Gorgutz’s hilarious dialogue and banter with the other races’ commanders. You may keep playing just to see his enthusiasm for krumpin’ all the races
