What Does the Map Show?

The map will showcase hills, rivers, lakes, bandit camps, man-made structures, and structures left by other porters. As you progress in the game, you will also unlock the ability to check out the weather forecast for any particular area. We advise you to plot your delivery routes while thoroughly accounting for what lies ahead of you. The red markers will tell you the factors that might become a problem.
If you choose to go through a place infested with bandits, you may want to have more non-lethal weapons than ladders/climbing anchors. If you are choosing to go around the bandits but through a route that involves a lot of climbs, drops, and crossing water streams, you will need to prioritise ladders, climbing anchors, and PCCs as required.
The map can also show you structures like Timefall Shelters or Generators up ahead. Information like that can come in clutch if you have a BT on your tail, your containers are damaged from Timefall, or your vehicle is running out of power.
