Death Stranding has a peculiar release timeline, having released on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Amazon Luna.

Death Stranding is a game that is all about the journey, putting you in the shoes of Sam Porter Bridges as he navigates a bizarre yet dangerous world. For a game that is all about the journey, Death Stranding has had quite a journey itself across various platforms in the six years since it first released in 2019.
Death Stranding is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Windows, iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Amazon Luna. This massive list of platforms almost makes the game the modern Resident Evil 4 in terms of being everywhere and on damn near everything. This was not always the case, however, as the game was originally a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Death Stranding has had a peculiar release timeline, which we shall discuss below.
Death Stranding Release Timeline

November 2019: Launch on PlayStation 4
After his unceremonious exit from Konami, what Hideo Kojima would do next was a hotly debated topic. After a first look at Death Stranding at E3 2016, the game finally made its way to shelves on November 8, 2019, but as a PlayStation exclusive. The game launched on PS4 and was published in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Kojima had a lot of help from Sony’s end during development, with Guerrilla Games stepping in to provide their engine.
July 2020: Death Stranding Comes to PC
A month or so before the game came to the PS4 in 2019, Kojima revealed that the game would also be making its way to PC and would be published in partnership with 505 Games. The game made its way to PC on July 14, 2020.
September 2021: Death Stranding Director’s Cut Comes to PS5
A year after the game made its way to PC, Kojima Productions released an enhanced and expanded version of the game titled “Death Stranding Director’s Cut on “September 24, 2021.” This version included performance upgrades to the original paired with enhanced visuals. The Director’s Cut also added in new missions and expanded upon the story, as well as adding several quality of life features.
March 2022: Director’s Cut Comes to PC
The Death Stranding Director’s Cut then came to PC shortly after on March 30, 2022. The game was published by 505 Games on PC. This edition had the same new features that were on the PS5 edition with some added features. These new features included ray tracing, DLSS, and ultrawide monitor support. The game also had unlocked FPS, meaning you could experience it at higher framerates compared to its console counterparts.
January 2024: The Game Comes to macOS, iOS, and iPadOS

At WWDC 2023, Kojima personally announced that his team had been working on something special for macOS. He then revealed Death Stranding for Apple platforms. The game would finally be released on macOS, as well as iOS and iPadOS, on January 30, 2024, making its way to the Apple ecosystem.
November 2024: Kojima Secures IP, Death Stranding Comes to Xbox, Amazon Luna
On November 7, 2024, Kojima Productions revealed in a press release that the studio had fully secured the Death Stranding IP rights from publisher 505 Games. This gave Kojima Productions full leeway to operate with the IP as they wished. Death Stranding Director’s Cut also made its way to the Xbox Series X|S on the same day. This marked the first time the game came to the Microsoft consoles. Death Stranding also released on Amazon Luna on the same day.
