Most RPGs have a weapon system of some kind, allowing you to equip weapons to strengthen your characters. Deltarune is no different in this respect. Each of the four playable characters wields a different type of weapon.

Kris, the main protagonist, wields swords and sabers. Susie uses axes, Ralsei equips scarves and Noelle makes use of rings. Of the rings available to Noelle, the most powerful – and the most important – is the Thorn Ring. Here is everything you need to know about the Thorn Ring in Deltarune.

The Thorn Ring is not only the most powerful ring available for Noelle, but also the most powerful weapon currently available in the game. It gives its user +14 AT and +12 Magic. Apart from this, its secondary effect is to halve the TP cost of ice spells. There are currently only two ice spells in the game: IceShock and SnowGrave.

This strength does come at a cost, however. During combat,it slowly drains Noelle’s HP down to 1/3rd of its max (rounded down).

How To Get the Thorn Ring in Deltarune

The Thorn Ring is an item exclusive to the secret Snowgrave route of Chapter 2. The method for achieving the Snowgrave route is quite complex. However, one of the requirements for it is to use Noelle’s spell IceShock to freeze every enemy you can encounter.

The Thorn Ring can be obtained just before the fight against Berdly. If you have completed all the other requirements and have frozen every enemy up to that point, then you can obtain the Thorn Ring. To get it, go to the Dog Dumpster in Cyber City.

While you are on the Snowgrave route, Spamton will be hiding in this dumpster. If you have frozen every enemy, then Spamton will sell you the Thorn Ring when you talk to him. The ring costs 1997 D$, making it quite expensive.

If you have not frozen every enemy when interacting with the dumpster, then you will instead be told how many encounters remain to be frozen. If you abort the Snowgrave route at any point, Spamton will no longer be in the dumpster. As a result, you can no longer obtain the Thorn Ring.

What Is the Thorn Ring Used For

Although the Thorn Ring is very powerful, its main advantage doesn’t lie in its strength. After all, you can only use it for a single battle. Instead, it serves as the final piece of the Snowgrave route. The SnowGrave spell will only become available when Noelle equips the ring. Additionally, its base cost of 200% TP will be halved to 100%. This lets you cast the spell.

After you have equipped the ring on Noelle, you can fight Berdly and use the SnowGrave spell. Should you defeat him in any other way, the Snowgrave route will be aborted. Once you use the spell, you will be locked into the Snowgrave route and Noelle will leave the party.

If you obtain the ring but abandon the Snowgrave route, then you can keep the ring. However, it currently has no other use in the game and Noelle has yet to rejoin your party after these events.
