Compass Rose is a solar precision frame shotgun introduced in the 2024 Solstice of Heroes event. Shotguns are popular weapons in PvP, and are have powerful builds centered around them in PvE. Precision frames are not the most sought-after shotgun, but tend to be easy to use and forgiving. The Compass Rose can be enhanced, granting it better stats and access to enhanced perks in Columns 3 and 4. The Compass Rose is an event weapon, so it is only available for a limited time during the Solstice of Heroes event. In this guide, we will discuss the PvE and PvP god rolls and how to get the Compass Rose shotgun.

- Column 4 Trait: One-Two Punch
- Masterwork: Handling
- Origin Trait: Nadir Focus

PvE God Roll Breakdown
Compass Rose comes into the game among many decent solar shotguns. Currently, it stands alone as the only precision frame, but that isn’t terribly important for shotguns in PvE. With the exception of pinpoint slug frames, almost all shotguns play the same way. The most important stat to improve on Shotguns in PvE is Handling, so Barrel Shroud and Handling masterwork are sure picks. Its a tough choice between Assualt Mag and Tactical Mag, but on the Compass Rose we have opted for the former for the faster fire rate. A Back-Up Mag mod is a staple for almost all PvE weapons as well to get an extra shell.
The 3rd and 4th Column perks are pretty standard shotgun fare on the Compass Rose. Dual Loader loads double the amount of shells per reload (3 shells per reload with the enhanced version. One-Two Punch is simply the best perk to have for a shotgun in PvE. Just hitting the target with a full pellet spread doubles the damage of your next melee attack. Nadir Focus is one of the more useful origin perks as it just works as really good passive benefit, increasing range and accuracy as you fire the weapon. The Compass Rose is a great PvE shotgun, but it doesn’t really bring anything new or exciting to the table. If you get a good one, keep it, but don’t grind for this one.
Other Rolls of Note
- Threat Detector or Threat Remover / One-Two Punch
- A slightly more situationally dependent version of our main god roll
- Threat Detector or Threat Remover / Incandescent
- A niche choice that could be effective for specific Solar builds
How to Use the Compass Rose in PvE
Shotguns of all frames other than pinpoint slugs are used for the same purpose: large-chunk damage against higher health targets such as majors and champions or close-range boss DPS situations where swords aren’t viable. This is true regardless of frame, slot, or energy, so almost all great shotguns seem the same in all but feel. Of course, this is the reason why One-Two Punch is such a powerful perk on shotguns. They all play the same way.
Precision frame shotguns like Compass Rose are great in that they can function like every other frame including pinpoint slug frames. Precision frames deal less damage than pinpoint slugs, but they are much more forgiving. You don’t have to get a perfect precision hit every shot to do good damage like you do with a pinpoint slug frame. That forgiveness gives precision frames a general use case that works in almost all situations in PvE.
PvP Compass Rose God Roll
The best perks for the Compass Rose PvP God Roll are Rifled Barrel, Accurized Rounds, Slickdraw, and Opening Shot. These provide important stats, utility, and damage for the weapon.
The following list is the best perks for the Compass Rose PVP God Roll in Destiny 2:
- Barrel: Rifled Barrel
- Magazine: Accurized Rounds
- Column 3 Trait: Slickdraw
- Column 4 Trait: Opening Shot
- Masterwork: Range
- Origin Trait: Nadir Focus
- Weapon Mod: Targeting Adjuster
PvP God Roll Breakdown
While it is a solid if unremarkable choice in PvE, Compass Rose comes into its own in PvP. Precision frame shotguns are highly sought after for PvP and the Compass Rose delivers great stats combined with the perfect perk combination. The stats to improve on shotguns in PvP are range and handling, and since we are gonna cover our handling in Column 3, we want to go all in on range. Rifled Barrel, Accurized Rounds, and a Range masterwork will see our range stat shoot up to nearly 100. A Targeting Adjuster mod is the most helpful in our roll as Quick Access Sling adds almost no benefit since our handling is maxed out.
The star of the show for Compass Rose shows up in Column 3: Slickdraw. Slickdraw gives us perfect handling while hurting target acquisition and accuracy. Neither of those things a particularly important on a weapon you are going shooting at point-blank range, so it is an easy pick. In Column 4, we have Opening Shot, which is a PvP staple and mitigates some of the negative effects of Slickdraw. The Compass Rose looks like it can dethrone the current king of precision frame shotguns, the Matador 64, and is one you should try to pick up if you are even remotely interested in PvP play.
How to Use the Compass Rose in PvP
Shotguns are a common choice for PvP in almost all Crucible game modes. They offer a powerful close-range tool to deal with an opponent Guardian when they get too close. Shotguns can easily remove a close threat in a single shot with just a modicum of accuracy and effort. In short, simply swap to the shotgun, aim, and shoot. They do have one downside: if an opponent is close enough for you to kill with a shotgun, that means they are close enough to do the same to you.
Precision frame shotguns like Compass Rose were built for PvP. They have a vertical oval-shaped pellet spread which is great for hitting hitboxes on enemy Guardians. Precision frames are considered to be the best shotguns objectively for PvP as a whole, although personal preference does play a roll in how a weapon feels. Overall, a well-rolled precision frame shotgun like Compass Rose is never a bad option to have in your arsenal.
