If you’re diving into the new expansion of Destiny 2, dubbed The Edge of Fate, you might have already come across several locked chests on the planet Kepler. Interact with one of these chests, and you’ll receive a notification that says you lack the technology to open the chest. But what technology do you require to access the chests? And how do you get the necessary tech? Well, these are Aionian Chests, and they are quite tricky to access without the proper know-how. So, in this guide, we’ll explore how you can open these Kepler locked chests in Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate.
How To Open Kepler Locked Chests in Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate
Firstly, you should know that you aren’t meant to open these chests until you progress far enough through the expansion’s campaign. You have to complete some of the quests that Lodi and Ikora send you on before that happens. Eventually, you will reach a point in the story where you’ll get the Rosetta Aionian Tech. This item will allow you to open the tier 1 locked chests. However, there are tier 2 chests as well, all of which open through other means.
For the tier 2 Aionian Chests, you will need to adopt different approaches. For instance, some of them will require you to overcharge a Field Generator using your Matterspark ability. Doing so will open any tier 2 chests connected to that generator.
You might need to use the Relocator to open other tier 2 chests. With the item in your possession, simply approach the locked chest, and you can now access it. Accessing some other locked Aionian Chests can be trickier. You might have to jump between nodes to power down a shield generator and then open the locked chest.
Finally, a few of the locked chests will require you to use Mattermorph. It’s another Kepler ability that you’ll unlock by progressing far enough into the campaign. With this ability, you can shift and bend matter to your will. This will enable you to reach the rest of the locked chests and unlock them.

What’s Inside the Kepler Locked Chests in Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate?
Inside these chests, you will discover Kepler destination weapons. If you have used the Altar of Relativity in Caldera to attune to certain weapons, those loot will drop when you pry open the locked chests. Any weapons you acquire through this method will have improved perks and stronger rolls than normal World Drops. However, they won’t be God Rolls.
