It’s a new resource that you can collect as you play through the expansion, and you’ll want to get as many of these as you can. Fated Ciphers will help you skew the game’s RNG in your favor so that you can easily acquire a specific weapon or armor piece.

How To Get Fated Ciphers in Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate
You can farm some Fated Ciphers by completing the various activities across the new Kepler map. Most of these activities might earn you one or two Fated Ciphers when you’re playing on Legendary difficulty. However, you’ll need a lot more of the resource if you plan to grind for specific weapons. For that, the Time Latch missions and The Sieve are your best options.
The Sieve
The Sieve is a new activity that appears near the Kepler landing zone from time to time. However, you can only attempt The Sieve activity during certain windows. You can check your map to see whether it’s active. If not, you can check how much time is left until it’s available. Once The Sieve activity is available, you can play and replay it as many times as you want, as long as the window is open.
Completing the entire activity multiple times should help you build a considerable stockpile of Fated Ciphers. The only drawbacks here are that you cannot attempt The Sieve at all times, and for the activity to become available to you, you’ll first have to beat the entire Edge of Fate campaign.
Time Latch Missions
The best way to farm Fated Ciphers is to complete Time Latch missions. This particular activity doesn’t take more than a few minutes to complete, which means you can repeat it over and over again multiple times in just a couple of hours. By the end of your run, you should have plenty of Fated Ciphers to use. Besides the resource, you also get Kepler-specific loot from completing Time Latch missions, which is a great bonus.

How To Use Fated Ciphers in Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate
As we said previously, Fated Ciphers will enable you to focus gear engrams, which means you’ll be able to increase your chances of finding specific weapons out in the world. To do this, all you need to do is visit Caldera and use the Altar of Relativity there to attune yourself with the particular weapon. So, this particular resource makes grinding for specific weapons much simpler.
However, due to the rarity of Fated Ciphers, you’ll first need to invest some time collecting a few of these through the Time Latch missions and The Sieve.
