Some gear in Diablo 4 can shift your entire build, and Unbroken Chain is one of those rare pieces. If you are playing as a Barbarian and want more from your Ultimate skill while cutting down enemy damage output, this amulet deserves your attention. Here’s everything you should know to grab it, use it well, and understand how it changes combat.
What Is Unbroken Chain in Diablo 4?
Unbroken Chain is a Unique Amulet made specifically for the Barbarian class. Its primary effect ties directly to two Barbarian skills: Steel Grasp and Iron Maelstrom. Whenever you cast Steel Grasp, the cooldown on Iron Maelstrom drops by a significant number of seconds, between 3.3 and 10. That means you will be able to use your Ultimate much more frequently, which can make a huge difference in fights.
But that’s not the only thing it does. Any enemy hit by Iron Maelstrom will deal less damage, between 10 and 30% less, for six seconds. That’s a window you can use to control tough fights more easily. Beyond its core effect, the amulet also comes with a strong set of affixes:
- Increased resistance to all elements
- Bonus to movement speed
- A large bump to Ultimate damage
- Cooldown reduction
- Plus ranks to the Pit Fighter passive
Put together, these bonuses help Barbarians move faster, hit harder, and reduce skill downtimes—all while giving them more control in chaotic fights.
How To Get Unbroken Chain in Diablo 4
There’s no direct way to buy or craft this amulet. If you want Unbroken Chain, you will need to earn it through focused grinding in specific activities. The first method involves fighting bosses with the potential to drop Unique items.
Grigoire is one such boss you should target. Known for rewarding players with high-value loot, Grigoire appears on the ladder of targeted bosses who can drop class-specific Uniques. Keep fighting him, and with some luck, Unbroken Chain may eventually fall. The better route, though, lies in the Infernal Hordes activity. This mode currently offers increased drop chances for many Uniques, including this amulet.
To gain access to it, you will first need to complete a questline called The Eyes of the Enemy. Once done, you will receive an Infernal Compass. That’s the item required to enter the portal into the Infernal Hordes. Once inside, progress through the waves and reach the end. There, you will find Spoils of Hell. These caches hold some of the best loot currently available. If you are specifically looking for Unbroken Chain, this is your best option.
Use of Unbroken Chain in Diablo 4
Unbroken Chain is most effective for Barbarians who use Iron Maelstrom as their main damage dealer. If you are leaning into builds that rely on heavy burst from Ultimates and quick skill resets, Unbroken Chain fits in well. The synergy between Steel Grasp and Iron Maelstrom becomes your core loop. Use the first to pull enemies in and trim down the cooldown of your Ultimate. Then follow up with Iron Maelstrom to hit hard and weaken enemy output at the same time.
The affix bonuses also support a fast-paced playstyle. Increased movement speed lets you reposition faster. More Ultimate damage and cooldown reduction make sure you stay aggressive. And the added resistance helps you survive during tougher encounters. If your build is already centered around these two skills, this amulet will make your rotations smoother. If not, it might be worth adjusting your setup to get the most out of its effects.
