When the Spiritborn was added to the game, it immediately dominated the meta. It had a minor setback in a few patches, but it eventually reclaimed its throne in Diablo 4 Season 9. The reason is possibly because of the unique Balazan’s Maxtlatl pants, which synergize perfectly with thorns-based builds. Speaking of Thorns builds for Spiritborn, let’s talk about the two most popular builds:

Rake Thorns

The Rake Thorns build for Spiritborn is quite straightforward to use. Its simple rotation combo makes it a go-to build for new players who are still learning this type of playstyle. It’s easy to use, has a forgiving timing, and has strong AoE damage.

The core mechanic of this build is applying rapid thorns damage via Rake procs. It gets better with the help of the changes made in Balazan’s Maxtlatl pants. Additionally, the Bastion passive further adds to the overall damage output.

Quill Volley Poison-Thorns

If you are serious about pushing pits in Diablo 4 Season 9, you will want to check out the Quill Volley Poison-Thorns build for Spiritborn. It’s a bit more complicated than the simple Rake Thorns build. It takes time to master the right positioning and cooldown management to make the rotation consistent. However, overcoming the high skill ceiling rewards you with a top-tier damage output.

The premise of this build is spamming Quill Volley arrows to trigger thorns. It gets better when amplified with Jaguar Spirit Hall and Noxious Resonance. Of course, you will be taking advantage of the effects of Balazan’s Maxtlatl pants for more damage.
