Find out what the game means when there’s an error message warning about blocklisted item in Diablo 4. Is there any fix to the issue?

There are some rare items in Diablo 4 that you simply can’t equip. And, when you try to use the items in question, you might see the following error message pop up: “This item has been blocklisted”. If you’re confused about what it means, you aren’t alone. Plenty of players have reported facing this issue, and there doesn’t seem to be any apparent resolution to the problem. In this guide, we’ll explain why certain gear is blocklisted in the game and what that means for the particular item.
What Is a Blocklisted Item in Diablo 4?

A blocklisted item is any piece of gear that is present in the game currently but cannot be equipped. This usually happens when Blizzard notices a balancing issue with any item and prevents players from using it to gain an undue advantage while playing. For instance, on May 2, 2025, many players claimed that the Crown of Lucion displayed the blocklisted item message. This was because of the item’s damage scaling issue. Blizzard is currently working on the gear, and you should be able to equip it soon, once the damage scaling problem is fixed. A community manager at the company confirmed the same through a post shortly after the issue came to light.
So, you don’t need to be alarmed if you see the blocklisted message on one of your favorite items. It probably means that Blizzard has noticed some type of bug or issue with the item. They’ll fix the issue and will likely allow you to equip it again once the problem is resolved. Players saw this happen previously after the launch of Vessel of Hatred. At that time, Frostburn, Azurewrath, and Shroud of False Death had the blocklisted status for a while. The same can happen for Legendary Aspects too. For instance, many players reported that the Aspect of the Agile Wolf was blocklisted at one point.

What Can You Do With a Blocklisted Item in Diablo 4?
Even when an item is blocklisted, you can still farm it as you normally would. Keep the items safely in your inventory and wait a few days for the blocklisted status to go away. Once that happens, simply equip it as you normally do. It should work as intended.
