Has Marvel Rivals’ popularity declined six months after the game’s release? Let’s explore the current player count.

Marvel Rivals’ popularity grew quickly after its full release on December 6, 2025. The player count peaked in Season 1 at 644,269 live players on Steam. While this doesn’t sum up the entire player base (because the game is playable on the Xbox Series and PS5 as well), it gives us a rough idea of how popular the game still is.
A month ago, we ran a cross-check to verify the game’s popularity. Now that six months have already passed since its full release, it’s about time that we confirm whether the game is still as popular.
What’s Marvel Rivals’ Popularity Status Six Months In?
Marvel Rivals started things off with Season 0, which lasted a month. Since then, Season 1 and Season 2 have lasted around three months. Starting with Season 3, every season will last only for two months each, meaning we will get new content every month! Despite the constant content, attention to player feedback, and a passionate community, the player count seems to be dissolving into thin air.
Since the game’s all-time peak in Season 1, the player count has been declining. In recent weeks, the SteamDB shows a regular pattern where around 87K players are live at 2:00 AM UTC. The lowest player count during these recent weeks was at 40K live players at 10:00 AM UTC each day. However, for the past two days, the peak player count has been set around 81K live players, while the most recent lowest player count was 33K players!

While the decline is strong since the all-time peak in January 2025, we have to keep in mind that these are just Steam player charts. On top of it all, another trend in the player count is that players tend to return in great numbers when a major content update drops. This is evident when a new Season hits or the mid-season brings in another character, a new map, and often some fresh events and modes. If the game was “dead”, it wouldn’t attract so much attention around these events.
What Marvel Rivals is facing right now is a “canon event” that all multiplayer games face. The game brings in many players when a major update comes along, and eventually only the true fans remain. No game is made to cater to all types of players and cannot become a regular source of entertainment for everyone. However, to keep things interesting and fresh and to keep temporary players from leaving, NetEase Games will push out fresh content each month! So, it is highly unlikely for players to forget Marvel Rivals so soon.
