Should you play Tails of Iron 1 before jumping into the upcoming sequel Tails of Iron 2? Read more to find out.
More than 3 years after its original installment, Tails of Iron is getting a sequel! The original game in the franchise came out in September 2021, and Tails of Iron 2 is planned to come out on the 28th of January, 2025. But should you be well-versed in this short franchise to enjoy the second part? Let’s learn about it.
The game is a side-scroller adventure RPG that has plenty of action elements to it. This provides engaging gameplay for players who are tired of the repetitive open-world designs found in AAA games.The gameplay loop alone doesn’t require you to play Tails of Iron 1. So, you can jump straight into the action with the sequel and not feel left out on things.
Redgi, the protagonist of the first game, is not getting carried over to the sequel; at least, he hasn’t been confirmed to appear. Instead, the game will feature a brand-new protagonist called Arlo. While the first game’s primary objective was to banish the Frog clan to reclaim your kingdom, the second installment seemingly revolves around a greater evil force.
So, on the surface, things might not appear connected. However, kindly note that the official Steam page for the game considers the second installment as a “sequel” to the first one. This suggests some sort of connection among the franchise titles, even if there is no solid continuity. We think it would benefit you if you could get a hang of the series’ gameplay and its lore if you played the original installment. But even if you start anew, it shouldn’t be too much trouble.
What’s New in Tails of Iron 2?
We don’t have much information on what the developers are cooking for this sequel. We are certain about the new protagonist with a fresh story arc. In fact, the world where the game is set is also brand-new. The second installment is called the “Whiskers of Winter.” The official description also suggests that the protagonist will be set on a journey through harsh northern lands.
Whatever we know so far is pointing towards the fact that the majority of the game will take place in a cold setting. This is not a far cry from the original installment. But we can’t forget that the first game was mostly set in swampy areas. Now, we might not explore the swamps just as much.
The story will also likely be less personal because the vendetta of the new protagonist is far more heroic, warding off evil. Redgi, on the other hand, was mostly concerned with reclaiming the kingdom. Since the foe is bigger, we can also expect tougher combat and even tougher weapons to counter them!
