Unlike other sports anime like Slam DunkHaikyuu!!, and Inazuma ElevenBlue Lock is different. The whole series has loads of characters, and it is focused on finding the best and modeling the world’s greatest egotistic striker. Designed by Jinpachi Ego, he sets players up so that the ones who qualify the best are the only ones who can represent Japan in the FIFA tournament. The ones who fail would never be allowed to do so.

We have come across sports anime where it is all about teamwork, wholesome vibes, and matches against different teams. Things are a little different here, as fans root for individual characters over teams, and eliminations can happen at any time.

This system pushes all the characters to be their best and push their limits. Yoichi Isagi, a football player, joined this program while feeling conflicted about his playing style. He aimed to defeat everyone and get selected to join the U-20 team to represent Japan.

Since the anime aired, we fans adored Isagi and watched him reach his best potential. And as we have so many characters, it was difficult to select one deuteragonist. There has been fan speculation that it could be one of these three characters—Meguru Bachira, Rin Itoshi, or Hyoma Chigiri. In this article, we will focus on why we feel Meguru Bachira is our deuteragonist.

Who Is Meguru Bachira?

Bachira is one of the important characters in Blue Lock, with his excellent skills as a dribbler and a finisher. He has unmatched speed. When it comes to his personality, he is very whimsical and eccentric.

At the start of the series, he is seen to be more carefree. He tends to fall asleep at important moments and relies on Isagi and Koun to wake him up.

He is faced with his childhood trauma, in which others bullied him for his skills and personality. In turn, he created an imaginary entity he called “Monster” and would want to go up against other players in whom he sees that similar “Monster.”

As a child, he seemed to want a friend who could play with him at his level and not call him weird. In this series, he eventually understands what is important and gets over his obsession with his imaginary idea.

Why Is Bachira the Deuteragonist?

A couple of fans agree that Bachira is Blue Lock’s deuteragonist because, from episode one, we see the chemistry and synergy between him and Isagi.

When Isagi lost during the 3v3 match, Bachira was chosen due to his dribbling by the other team. Isagi promised that he would get him back, signifying their relationship, which highlights not only their friendship but also their trust. And Bachira had his awakening in this final game. Isagi was the only one who understood that the awakening happened for Bachira.

In the world of Blue Lock, it is a dog-eat-dog world, where anyone could betray anyone when the tides turn. In this setting, the platonic relationship we see between them makes Bachira an important deuteragonist in Blue Lock.

Bachira’s Role in Blue Lock

When we take his character in a one-dimensional aspect and analyze it, the answer is simple. Bachira is a very talented player who knows he has the skills to make it to the top. We might say his role was to make sure he was a strong pillar for Isagi, ensuring they were there for each other. Another perspective is to see Bachira just as an individual.

As a player, he was fueled by his trauma and the “Monster” he created. Just having skill is not enough in Blue Lock. He needed to push past that wall. It was his “Monster” that ended up being the reason for him not having his awakening. The time he realized that he was on another level.

Also, he played a good role in shifting the narration of the anime. His unpredictable behavior, combined with his cheerful attitude, made us fans enjoy his screen time. We love a character who ends up being on great terms with our main character.

By the time Bachira awakens, we see him saying goodbye to Isagi, as he used to see Isagi as being above him. He reclaimed his freedom and his original passion for playing football. As a character, he made us understand that sometimes we end up putting walls on our true potential, so let that wall go and climb to our greatness.

Bachira’s Influence on Isagi?

The relationship between Bachira and Isagi is very wholesome. During the first season, episode 1, Bachira saw the “Monster” in Isagi and chose to pass the ball to him. And the moment when Isagi was about to kick the ball with all he had, we see a smiling Bachira saying, “Boom,” implying he was already able to gauge the true potential of our main character.

Later in the series, he helped Isagi a lot. He became reliable support and formed a strong bond where they helped each other, especially when they were tied in the match against Team Z at 1-1. Bachira was the only one who believed in Isagi and passed the ball to him, saying, “I’ll leave the rest to you.” It fueled Isagi’s ego. He accepted that he was a striker and made a very satisfactory goal, which led to their victory.

During the final game, when Bachira had his awakening and called it “back to square one ego,” the only one to stop him was Isagi. Isagi had predicted that he would do this. This confidence that Isagi had in Bachira and then being the only one who saw the awakening means that even he pushed himself to stop Bachira.

Everyone else had given up, saying they could not stop him. So the relationship archetype, where they supported each other, did not exist anymore. Now, they pushed each other to be at their best.

Can Other Characters Be Considered As Blue Lock’s Deuteragonist?

We have names like Rin Itoshi, Seishiro Nagi, and Hyoma Chigiri, whom fans think could take the spot of deuteragonist in Blue Lock. We believe that they did help Isagi grow as a player. But one thing is lacking in them—the bond. None of them could influence and support Isagi the way Bachira has. And Isagi also trusted Bachira enough to pass the ball at crucial moments.

Everyone is fueled by the need to be the best striker and does not leave any chance to showcase their skills. But when it comes to enjoying, understanding, and playing the game, Bachira and Isagi are the perfect combination. So we feel that while there are compelling contenders, none of them come close to Meguru Bachira.

Conclusion

This anime has fans on the edge of their seats as the plot progresses. After Season 2 aired, fans were conflicted about the anime due to its animation quality, but because of the plot, it continued. There are forums where fans discuss who truly is the deuteragonist, and there are debates. According to the Wiki page, it is Rin Itoshi. However, this does not deter the speculations of others. There are rumors that the series could get renewed for Season 3, and we hope that the quality rises as it did during the first season.

Another perspective suggests that different arcs in this series feature different deuteragonists, and the final answer will become clear by the end. Let us see where this story takes us.
