This feature allows you to play the same account on multiple platforms. It can be a handy feature if you own multiple consoles and a PC. It also allows you to experience what each platform offers, especially on PC, where you have more graphical enhancements available.
Unfortunately, Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds will not support cross-save progression. This decision received mixed comments from fans. However, many are content with the fact that the game still offers cross-play, so they can play with their friends from other platforms.

How Does Cross-Play Work in Monster Hunter Wilds?
The cross-play feature in Monster Hunter Wilds allows you to play with other players across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. This is a good feature to have for games like this, as the game’s cooperative nature means there’s no competitive advantage tied to specific platforms.
However, you need to keep in mind that the process may vary when joining a lobby with random players or with friends. If you want to join or post your own quest, the game sends you to a lobby with other players.
Alternatively, if you want to play with your friends, you need to do extra steps. You first need to invite them from your friend list or give them your link code that the game generates for you. Once they have joined your party, you can then add them to your friend list so you can simply invite them to your next session.

Absence of Cross-Save Feature in Monster Hunter Wilds
Capcom has stated that implementing cross-save is “not possible,” though specific technical reasons have not been detailed. This means that game progress, character data, and purchased DLC are confined to the platform on which they were originally created. Additionally, this also means that players who choose to play on multiple platforms will need to start separate save files for each.
However, some fans claim that having cross-play is more important than cross-save. Having both would be a treat, but at least we can enjoy cross-play, which is good for unifying a player base across different platforms.
