The Golden Temple is the ultimate challenge in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, offering a thrilling final level for players who have unlocked all its secrets. Whether you’re chasing the Puzzle Pieces or reaching the end, this guide will help you every step of the way.
How To Unlock the Golden Temple in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD?
The Golden Temple isn’t available right away. You’ll need to defeat Tiki Tong by completing 8-B Tiki Tong Terror and finishing the main game. This victory returns DK’s banana hoard and causes the temple to rise from the ground.
However, before entering the Golden Temple, Donkey Kong must collect eight Rare Orbs. These Orbs are hidden in the K levels of the game, one in each world.
Here’s where you’ll find them:
- 1-K Platform Panic: Green Orb
- 2-K Tumblin’ Temple: Blue Orb
- 3-K Shifty Smashers: White Orb
- 4-K Jagged Jewels: Pink Orb
- 5-K Blast & Bounce: Yellow Orb
- 6-K Perilous Passage: Orange Orb
- 7-K Treacherous Track: Gray Orb
- 8-K Five Monkey Trial: Red Orb
When all eight Orbs are collected, they’ll float into the air and slot into the temple’s door. This opens the passage to the Golden Temple.
Enter the Temple
Once inside, Donkey Kong encounters a mysterious Golden Banana. Touching it transports him to an alternate world full of floating fruits and unique challenges. In earlier versions of the game, the Golden Temple itself is the final level. In newer versions, including the Nintendo Switch remake, it leads to an entire World 9, known as the Cloud World.
Find the Puzzle Pieces
There are five hidden Puzzle Pieces in the Golden Temple. Collecting them requires careful exploration and quick reflexes:
- Puzzle Piece 1
- At the start of the level, look for a floating island with a Tiki Doom. Ground pound it to knock down a vase. A Puzzle Piece will drop shortly after.
- Puzzle Piece 2
- In the section with floating blueberries, jump across the platforms to reach a strawberry on the top left. Gather the two spinning banana rings above it to reveal a Puzzle Piece.
- Puzzle Piece 3
- After facing two Kowalees, you’ll find a large floating banana platform. Collect the two spinning banana rings above it. Stand on the platform’s edge when it tilts high, and the Puzzle Piece will become reachable.
- Puzzle Piece 4
- Spot three floating strawberries above a gap. Start by collecting the Banana Bunch on one strawberry. Each time you grab a bunch, another appears on a different strawberry. Keep going until the Puzzle Piece falls onto the middle strawberry.
- Puzzle Piece 5
- Near the end of the level, locate the final rotating banana platform before the Barrel Cannon. The Puzzle Piece is on the edge of the platform. Wait for the right tilt, then grab it before moving on.
Complete the Golden Temple
Close to the level’s end, three Blast Barrels will appear. Use them to move between each other. A modified Exit Barrel will eventually appear. Time your shot perfectly to fire into it and finish the level.
Mirror Mode
After completing the Golden Temple, you unlock Mirror Mode. This is the ultimate test for players, flipping the level layout and introducing new challenges:
- Diddy Kong won’t be available.
- Items, including extra Hearts, are turned off.
- You only have one Heart, so mistakes aren’t an option.
