In this guide, we shall go over how to defeat Defect in Dying Light The Beast and offer tips to make the fight a much easier time.
Dying Light The Beast introduces new Chimera bosses into the series, and Defect is the second of this lot that you face in the early part of the game. Much like The Reaper, Defect is built like a titan, hits like a truck, and has a deceptively high range with his ground smash attacks.
Considering how early you face this boss, Defect can give you a hard time. If you’re stuck on Defect and not sure how to go about defeating him, this guide is for you.
How To Beat Defect in Dying Light The Beast
Beating Defect requires you to be on your toes and always stick to his back. His back is his blind spot, and you have to use this to your advantage throughout the fight. Apart from that, you also need to be wary of the moves he uses, which we’ve listed below:
- Ground Smash: Defect will raise his hands in the air, smashing them straight down into the ground to send a shockwave your way. Dodge to the side to avoid this attack. If you’re bold, you can also try running toward his back when you see him begin the animation.
- Leaping Smash: Defect will jump into the air and smash right into your position. Dodge to the side to avoid this, and quickly run to his sides and back for some free hits.
- Ground Pound: Defect will pound the ground twice like a gorilla. This attack isn’t aimed at you, and the boss only uses this if you run around too much. Still, try not to walk into it.
- Stunned Swings: If you stun the boss with a few well-placed hits, he’ll start blindly swinging his arms around. Do not walk in front of him when he’s doing so. Run to the back and dish out some free damage. Don’t get greedy, however, because he might swing a little too wide and hit you from the back.

You can also use the following tips to make the fight a bit easier:
- Don’t use charged attacks. While charged attacks deal greater damage, they also briefly slow you down and lock you into an animation. Defect is unpredictable, so we recommend using single hits and incorporating a hit-and-run gameplay strategy.
- Use the gas tanks in the arena. You can melee these canisters to start a gas leak, after which they detonate shortly. We recommend saving some bullets for shooting the tanks. Shooting the tanks makes them explode instantly, making it easier to deal damage. Shoot the tanks whenever Defect walks by.
- Use the ambush before the boss fight to charge up Beast Mode. Just before the boss fight begins, there’s a short section where you have to clear out the area full of zombies. You can use this opportunity to fill your Beast Mode gauge. Remember: guns do not fill up the meter. Use melee attacks to do so.
