The Hunting Crossbow in Dying Light The Beast is one of the most challenging weapons to acquire. Regardless of the difficulties, you should grab it as soon as you can because it is clearly one of the most powerful ranged weapons in the game. Grabbing the Hunting Crossbow is just half the work, though, since you’ll also need to craft its bolts before you can begin using it to skewer enemies. With that in mind, here is our detailed guide on getting your hands on the Hunting Crossbow.

Unlike guns, you won’t be able to get your hands on the Hunting Crossbow in the early or mid-game sections. Instead, you’ll acquire it during the late-game stages. In fact, the weapon unlock happens during one of the side missions, dubbed Hunting Yaga. You’ll need to reach Level 11 before this quest triggers. At that stage, you’ll also unlock the Abandoned House Safe Zone in the National Park. After meeting these requirements, you’ll find an NPC named Max in your hideout. He’ll task you with hunting down the Yaga. If you are successful, he promises to hand over a weapon named Lizzy as your reward. This is the crossbow.

Since it is a late-game side quest, you can expect a significant challenge. You’ll have to venture into the forest after dark, facing zombies and even a mini boss. Additionally, you’ll need to take down several human enemies. Since you are doing all of this at night, there is always a risk of Volatiles joining the fight if you make too much noise. We recommend avoiding guns to prevent Volatiles from appearing.

After completing the quest, you will receive Lizzy, the Hunting Crossbow, as a reward.

How To Use the Hunting Crossbow in Dying Light The Beast

The Hunting Crossbow has no durability, which means you can use it as much as you want, as long as you have available bolts. Even the most basic bolts fired from the weapon can take down most enemies in just a couple of shots. You can pick up some of the bolts you fire, allowing you to recycle ammo for the crossbow. However, you will still need to craft more bolts from time to time. To craft the basic bolts, you will need the following materials:

  • 2x Feathers
  • 12x Scrap

Mixing these items will give you four bolts. Crafting bolts is therefore not very expensive. You can also unlock other types of bolts from Safe Zones. These include Shock Bolts and Fire Bolts, which are more effective against enemies vulnerable to those elements. While you can craft a variety of bolts for the weapon, you cannot upgrade the Hunting Crossbow itself.
