Manuals are a new addition to Dying Light The Beast that upgrades your blueprints. Here’s a definitive guide on them.

Dying Light The Beast has a new resource for you to acquire Manuals. Currently, there are two types of manuals in the game: Beginner and Intermediate. Manuals are often found as Quest Rewards and in Dark Zones which are special areas taken over by straitjacket zombies that will cry out if you’re seen.
These areas are a test of stealth and require you to creep your way to the end of the room. The Manuals are generally hidden behind a locked door and are refreshed often. Here’s a definitive guide on the Manuals.
What Are Manuals in Dying Light The Beast?

Manuals are a new resource introduced in Dying Light The Beast that help you upgrade your blueprints. Blueprints help you upgrade your equipment in-game. However, you will also need some crafting materials along with the Manuals to upgrade it. Manuals can be pretty rare later in the game as quest rewards, and the other alternative is found in Dark Zones and through exploration.
So, completing early side quests to obtain Beginner and Intermediate Manuals is recommended. Currently, there are three types of Manuals: Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. The first two can be found early on, but the Expert Manuals can only be found in the later part of the game. These Manuals upgrade your blueprints, giving you access to better gear. The best way to farm them is through Dark Zones and side quests scattered throughout the game.
You can check if a side quest will give a manual as a reward by spotting a hammer and wrench icon stamped on a book in the quest reward panel. Manuals upgrade your equipment from common to rare, rare to epic, and epic to legendary. This makes farming manuals important in the game. However, you will find plenty of side quests to obtain manuals in the game.
How To Get Each Manual Type

- Beginner Manuals: Can be found in Dark Zones throughout Castor Wood and side quests. Manuals have a chance to spawn in your world, so you can also find them during exploration. Beginner Manuals are unlocked from the start of the game.
- Intermediate Manuals: Can be rewarded through side quests and Dark Zones. But, you can also craft them once you find your first Intermediate Manual. They will also start spawning in your world when you reach level 6-7. You can also craft Intermediate Manuals by combining three Beginner Manuals.
- Expert Manuals: These manuals are found and rewarded much later in the game. However, you can craft one using three Intermediate Manuals. Similarly, the blueprints for Expert Manuals also unlock if you find your first one as a reward or through exploration.
The Manuals that are found through exploration and Dark Zones are tied with your rank/level. So, as you progress through the game, you will start finding manuals more at your level more than the lower tier.
