Dying Light The Beast, the highly anticipated expansion for Dying Light 2, turned into a standalone title, finally has a confirmed release date. Surprisingly enough, the game is coming out much sooner than expected. The Beast is essentially a spiritual sequel to the original Dying Light as well as Dying Light 2. The game sees the return of the original Dying Light’s protagonist, Kyle Crane, albeit with a whole new set of abilities and tools. Unlike Dying Light 2, which featured heavy emphasis on the “human” element of the story, the narrative of The Beast is primarily focused on the “infection” and the “infected.” Developer Technland has been mostly tight-lipped on the game’s narrative, which is understandable.

However, we do know the game’s pre-order details, as well as the pricing model. Here’s everything you need to know about Dying Light The Beast’s pre-orders, editions, prices, and more.

Dying Light The Beast is scheduled to be released on August 22, 2025. Much like Dying Light 2, The Beast is coming to both current-gen (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) and previous-gen (PS4 and Xbox One) consoles. The game is also available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. One thing to note here is that if you already own Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition, you won’t have to purchase The Beast.

Dying Light The Beast started its development as the second story DLC for Dying Light 2. However, during development, the scope of the project grew far beyond a DLC expansion. As such, Techland decided to turn the game into a standalone title, akin to Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

However, since the studio also shipped Dying Light 2’s Ultimate Edition with the promise of two story DLCs, they’re offering all Ultimate Edition owners The Beast at no additional cost. Essentially, if you own Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition on your platform of choice, you won’t have to pre-order or purchase Dying Light The Beast separately. More details on how players can claim their free copy of The Beast will be revealed close to the game’s release date.
