In this walkthrough guide, we walk you through The Beast Within main story quest in Dying Light The Beast.
After you save the survivors at the Town Hall in Life After Life, you learn of the Beast that had attacked the building earlier. This Beast was unlike anything the survivors had seen before, and they want you to investigate what this new monster is, kicking off the The Beast Within quest in Dying Light The Beast.
While the task seems simple, this quest is one of the scariest quests in the game. This is the first quest that forces you to play at night, making it your first encounter with the iconic volatiles, the apex predators of Dying Light. If you’re struggling with this quest, our guide is here to help.
How To Complete The Beast Within in Dying Light The Beast
You need to clear the following objectives to complete The Beast Within in Dying Light The Beast:
- Find the Beast’s traces.
- Follow the Beast’s traces.
- Investigate the explosion site.
- Get to the church.
- Investigate the basement entrance.
- Climb the tower.
- Get to the train tunnel.
- Find the Beast in the train tunnel.
- Escape the tunnel.
The Beast Within Walkthrough
Tracing the Beast’s Footsteps
Your hunt for the Beast begins by tracing its footsteps. Step out of the town hall and into the night, and use your survivor’s sense. The Beast’s footsteps will be marked in yellow, and you’ll have to trace these across the town. The night, however, is not safe. Volatiles lurk around in the dark, and you must be as discreet as possible when tracking these footsteps.
Furthermore, no matter what happens, do not point your flashlight at the volatiles. You’ll attract their attention, and things will turn really bad, really quickly. We recommend using your survivor sense to keep track of the volatiles around the area as well. Trust us and stick to the rooftops, and you’ll be safe.

Investigate the Explosion
As you go about tracing the Beast’s footsteps, you’ll hear a loud explosion in the distance. Look into the horizon, and you’ll see an unmistakable ball of flame a few blocks away. You need to investigate this area. Head to the explosion site and you’ll find a ton of zombies. Kill them all and enter the back of the open truck to loot an SMG. Then, investigate the body inside the church to progress.

The Church
As you investigate the body inside the truck, you’ll get a radio notification of the Beast attacking the church. Rush to the church and you’ll find the gate locked. Take the stairs leading below to find an entrance in the basement. There may be a volatile patrolling this area. Use a decoy to lure it away and quickly sneak into the church.
Once you’re in, you’ll be in a dark zone with tons of sleeping zombies. Sneak past them and follow the marked path to get to the upper level. You then have to climb the church tower and make your way up. You can do so by taking the path next to the podium and following the ledges. This will lead you to the chandeliers, which will then take you to the top. As you reach the top, you’ll then learn of the Beast’s movements inside a nearby train tunnel.

The Train Tunnel
By the time you learn of the Beast’s movements inside the tunnel, the sun should be rising again. Use this to move freely and make your way to the tunnel. Enter the tunnel, and it’s a linear series of hallways you need to pass through while following the Beast’s footsteps. You’ll have to kill a ton of zombies along the way, and you’ll then run into the Beast himself. After a brief cutscene, the Beast will escape, and you need to head out of the tunnel.
Just as you start moving towards the exit, you’ll have your first full-blown encounter with the volatiles. A horrifying cutscene will play out, and they will all come out of hiding. You then have to dash for the exit in a bid to survive.
No matter what happens, try not to run in a straight line. Take the parkour paths and wall run across gaps to evade the volatiles. Running straight makes you an easy target, and remember: they’re faster than you. Once you escape the tunnel, Olivia will ask you to meet up with her, bringing The Beast Within quest to an end.
