How To Unlock Escape From Wan Castle Mission in Dynasty Warriors Origins
To unlock the Escape From Wan Castle mission, choose Cao Cao’s faction during Chapter 3 and complete the follow-up missions. This mission serves as the starting point for Chapter 4 in the Wei route.
Zhang Xiu’s supposed surrender turned out to be an ambush, trapping Cao Cao and his forces inside the Wan Castle. Your goal is to ensure Cao Cao reaches the escape point while preventing Cao Cao, Xiahou Dun, and Guo Jia from feeling the battle. The mission involves the following steps:
- Clear Northeast Base
- Clear Northwest Base and Defeat Jia Xu
- Defeat Zhang Xiu and Save Dian Wei
- Escort Cao Cao to Safety

Clear Northeast Base
The mission begins at the center of the battlefield. Clear the enemy forces near the castle gate to aid Cao Cao in his escape plan. A cutscene will show Zhang Xiu’s forces launching a fire volley from the northeast base, blocking Cao Cao’s path in the castle. Head quickly to the spot and assist Guo Jia in clearing the area.
After defeating several waves of reinforcements, Zhang Xiu’s engineers will attempt to launch catapults. Rush to their location and eliminate them to stop the attack.
Clear Northwest Base and Defeat Jia Xu
Once the catapults are neutralized, the escape plan begins. Cao Cao’s laddermen attempt to set a ladder near the northwest gate of the castle. Clear the enemy bases in this area and defeat Jia Xu. Once the area is cleared, Cao Cao’s forces set ladders against the castle wall to provide an escape route for Cao Cao.
Defeat Zhang Xiu and Save Dian Wei
Now, enter the castle through the western gate and defeat the four officers found inside to free and save Dian Wei. This serves as one of the conditions for unlocking Wei’s true ending.
Meanwhile, Cao Cao’s escape enrages Zhang Xiu and makes him pursue Cao Cao. Assist Cao Cao in defeating Zhang Xiu. Be cautious, as Zhang Xiu is quite strong and has unpredictable attacks.
Escort Cao Cao to Safety
After Zhang Xiu is defeated, eliminate the remaining enemy forces to clear Cao Cao’s escape path. Escort him to the designated escape location while ensuring his safety. Once you cross the wooden bridge and reach the escape point, the mission will be completed. Upon completing the mission, you will get the horse Shadow Runner as a reward.
