The EA FC 26 Pitch Notes shared a Football Ultimate Team (FUT) deep dive, revealing some changes to enhance the gameplay experience. Most of the content and improvements were based on community feedback. This includes new competitive structures, gameplay tuning, squad progression systems, and ways to earn rewards across the season.

What You Need To Know From the EA FC 26 Ultimate Team Deep Dive
Rivals, Champions & Bounties Overhaul
Weekend League (Champions) and Division Rivals are getting some long-overdue quality-of-life updates. Playoffs are being removed entirely, simplifying progression. Now, your Rivals’ performance directly qualifies you for Champions, provided you maintain a high enough rank. EA is also introducing a new Challengers Tier, allowing more players to access top-tier rewards without needing to commit to the full sweat of Weekend League.
The most exciting addition is Bounties. These are objectives that pop up during Rivals matches, such as scoring first or keeping a clean sheet. These small challenges reward you with bonus coins or packs, even when you don’t win every match, making the grind actually worthwhile and less punishing.
Gameplay Tuning: Competitive Mode Focused on FUT
The most important innovation in EA FC 26 is devoted to a Competitive Gameplay mode. It’s available only for Ultimate Team and Clubs. The priority is responsiveness, fluidity, sharper player control, and smarter in-game logic. This is particularly in areas such as goalkeeper rebounds and ball physics.
Offline and single-player modes, by contrast, will retain the “Authentic” gameplay preset. This prioritizes realism over speed. The diversity allows Football Ultimate Team players to enjoy more optimized matches while still catering to fans of simulation-style football elsewhere.

Live Events & Squad Variety
To keep the Ultimate Team experience fresh throughout the year, EA is introducing more dynamic Live Events that change weekly or seasonally. These events are accompanied by certain squad conditions. This includes forming teams around specific leagues, countries, or chemistry rules. It’s a straightforward push for squad diversity, with incentives for players who have diversified squads.
Tournaments also return in knockout form, appearing on fixed timetables and with unique rewards for advancement. Meanwhile, a new feature called Gauntlets challenges players to win up to five matches using five different squads, one per match. The more wins you secure, the better the rewards, and losing doesn’t eliminate you from the challenge.
Evolutions & Goalkeepers
Player Evolutions, one of the most beloved game features, are being improved in EA FC 26 for the very first time with the addition of Goalkeepers. You can develop your keepers, as well as outfield players, by unlocking them through various challenges over time.
Additionally, EA has enhanced cosmetic customization for progressed players. This enables stackable appearance improvements, such as kits, boots, and accessories, without affecting stats or gameplay. Repeated evolutions also work between different players, and you have more options to customize your squad’s identity throughout the season.

Match Outcomes & Fair Play Improvements
EA is overhauling the recording of match results to deter toxic behavior and rage-quitting. If a game ends prematurely due to an opponent disconnecting, whether they quit, crash, or leave, the match result will still count in your favor. However, this is taking into consideration whether the score was level or in your favor at the time.
Players who consistently abuse disconnects will face matchmaking penalties. One example is longer queue times, as they won’t be prioritized in the matchmaking process. This change helps ensure that your effort in every match matters and minimizes frustration from matches that would’ve previously ended in a no-result.
