Elden Ring Nightreign’s first title update is now live on all platforms ahead of its release. Unsurprisingly, the update is targeted at fixing the major issues that have been mentioned by mainstream media outlets and content creators following the review embargo. In typical FromSoftware fashion, the patch notes are quite vague, not mentioning the precise tweaks that have been made. However, the patch notes do mention that the update brings changes to the game’s overall balancing, as well as fixes for traversal-related issues. Furthermore, the update also addresses the missing OSTs from the digital soundtrack that comes bundled with the Deluxe Edition of the game.

Here’s a look at all the changes brought to Elden Ring Nightreign with update 1.01.

The following are the official patch notes for Elden Ring Nightreign (version 1.01):

  • Improved handling of playable characters
  • Soundtrack addition and adjustments
  • Text adjustments
  • Balance adjustments
  • Added character scenarios
  • Bug fixes

While FromSoftware did not go into details regarding the changes, it seems to be primarily targeted at the criticisms levied at the game by reviewers. In our review, we mentioned that some bosses in Nightreign can feel a bit unfair. We also alluded to the fact that the game’s first round of post-launch updates would be aimed at balancing the difficulty, especially for solo players. Additionally, some reviews mentioned the “clunkiness” in the game’s traversal system. This also seems to have been improved with the latest update. Essentially, the jump in Nightreign felt a tad unresponsive at times, especially for players using controllers on PC.

That seems to have been addressed with the latest update. Lastly, the update also appears to have added character scenarios. While the patch notes do not provide any details, this seems to be in reference to the Nightfarer Remembrances.

Is the Day One Update Included With Elden Ring Nightreing’s Pre-Load?

Surprisingly enough, the day one update isn’t part of the pre-load data for Nightreign. If you have the game pre-loaded on your console or PC, you will need to download the update separately before you can play the game on release (May 30, 2025). However, if you have yet to pre-load the game, you will get the day one update alongside the download. It should be noted that you can play the game without installing the update.

However, if you want to use online multiplayer features, you will need to update Nightreign to the latest application and calibration versions.
